This role ensures safe, efficient operations while maintaining strict adherence to food safety, quality, and regulatory standards.\nTYPICAL JOB DUTIES:\nMalting Process Operations\nOperate and monitor malting equipment used in steeping, germination, and kilning processes\nControl critical process parameters such as temperature, moisture, airflow, and germination time\nExecute process adjustments to achieve target malt characteristics (e.g., enzyme activity, color, moisture content)\nStart up, shut down, and clean malting systems in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs)\nGrain Handling & Material Flow\nCoordinate movement of raw grain into steep tanks and transfer malt through germination and kilning stages\nEnsure proper handling, storage, and rotation of raw materials and finished malt (FIFO/FEFO)\nMaintain accurate lot tracking and traceability throughout the process\nQuality Control\nCollect and evaluate samples throughout the malting process\nMonitor product quality attributes such as moisture, germination rate, modification levels, and color\nIdentify and troubleshoot quality deviations, taking corrective actions as needed\nCollaborate with quality/lab teams to ensure adherence to specifications\nEquipment Operation & Maintenance\nPerform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on malting equipment\nClean and sanitize steep tanks, germination vessels, kilns, and associated equipment\nIdentify equipment issues and work with maintenance teams to resolve them\nFollow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures when servicing equipment\nSafety & Compliance\nAdhere to all safety guidelines, including confined space entry and combustible dust controls\nMaintain proper housekeeping to minimize dust, mold, and contamination risks\nUse required personal protective equipment (PPE)\nDocumentation & Reporting\nRecord operational data, including batch records, process conditions, and production output\nMaintain logs for quality checks, equipment inspections, and maintenance activities\nReport safety incidents, process issues, or quality concerns promptly\nOther\nAdhere to all government and company safety, sanitation and GMP policies and regulations. Adhere to Food Safety, Quality and SQF Codes\nOther duties as assigned by supervisor\nREQUIREMENTS:\nBasic mechanical aptitude and understanding of processing equipment. \nAbility to read and follow technical instructions, SOPs, and safety guidelines. \nKnowledge of food safety systems (GMP, HACCP) preferred\nFamiliarity with automated or PLC-controlled systems.\nHOURSPosition is for 2nd shift, traditionally scheduled 3pm to 11pm. Individual will work a rotational 2nd shift including some weekends.
