This role combines hands-on development with technical leadership, architecture guidance, and mentorship across enterprise Windchill implementations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Extend the Windchill data model by implementing custom object types, attributes, relationships, and metadata using Type and Attribute Management (TAM).
  • Develop custom user interface components including JSP, HTML, JavaScript, custom actions, tables, wizard pages, dashboards, and UI extensions.
  • Build asynchronous processing solutions using Windchill queues, background processors, scheduled tasks, and event-driven components.
  • Design and implement complex workflow expressions, robot delegates, lifecycle automation, and approval processes using Java and Windchill workflow frameworks.
  • Optimize application performance through Java profiling, query optimization, caching strategies, JVM tuning, and efficient API utilization.
  • Ensure all customizations follow PTC-supported development practices, minimizing technical debt and enabling seamless future upgrades.
  • Lead modernization initiatives by migrating legacy customizations to supported PTC frameworks while maintaining backward compatibility and minimizing business disruption.
  • Perform architecture reviews, code reviews, and technical assessments to maintain engineering quality, scalability, security, and maintainability.
  • Collaborate with functional consultants, solution architects, PLM administrators, and business stakeholders to translate complex business requirements into robust technical solutions.
  • Provide production support, troubleshoot complex issues, perform root cause analysis, and drive long-term platform stability.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, architecture diagrams, operational runbooks, coding standards, and design specifications.
  • Mentor development teams through code reviews, technical workshops, design sessions, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.
  • 10+ years of professional Java development experience, including extensive hands-on experience with PTC Windchill customization and platform development.
  • Expert-level proficiency with Windchill Java API, PTC customization frameworks, and Windchill extension mechanisms.
  • Deep understanding of Windchill architecture, data model, lifecycle management, workflow engine, access control, and object model.
  • Strong expertise in Java, object-oriented design, multithreading, performance tuning, and enterprise software development.
  • Extensive experience with JSP, HTML, JavaScript, and Windchill client-side customization.
  • Hands-on experience with Type and Attribute Management (TAM), Object Initialization Rules (OIRs), lifecycle templates, and workflow customization.
  • Strong SQL skills with experience supporting Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server databases.
  • Proven experience supporting Windchill upgrades, migrations, performance optimization, and enterprise production environments.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, documentation, collaboration, and technical leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PTC Windchill Certified Professional or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with PTC ThingWorx, Windchill RV&S (Integrity), Creo, Arbortext, or other PTC product integrations.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or GitHub Actions for Windchill development.
  • Experience deploying or supporting Windchill in AWS, Microsoft Azure, or other cloud environments.
