Bristol Myers Squibb is an American pharmaceutical company whose predecessors date to 1858 and 1887 and which took its present form in a 1989 merger. Its portfolio is concentrated in oncology, haematology, immunology and cardiovascular disease, including the checkpoint inhibitor Opdivo, the blood thinner Eliquis co-marketed with Pfizer, the cell therapies acquired with Celgene, and newer products such as the schizophrenia treatment Cobenfy. Headquartered in Princeton, New Jersey and listed on the New York Stock Exchange, it faces a heavy sequence of patent expiries and has been buying and licensing assets to replace them.

At Bristol Myers Squibb, our employees often ask, “Who are you working for?”-a question that fuels collaboration, accountability, and urgency in our work. Our purpose-driven culture inspires us to discover, develop, and deliver innovative medicines to prevail over serious diseases. We offer uniquely interesting and meaningful work, opportunities for growth, and a supportive environment that values inclusion, wellbeing, flexibility, and comprehensive benefits. This is work that transforms the lives of patients, and the careers of those who do it.

Position Summary

Bristol Myers Squibb is looking for a passionate and motivated laboratory animal veterinarian to join our Veterinary Sciences (VS) team as a Staff Veterinarian at our Lawrenceville, NJ (LVL) site. Whether you are early in your lab animal medicine career or looking to deepen your expertise in a dynamic research environment, this is an exciting opportunity to grow alongside a collaborative, highly skilled team.

In this role, you will provide high-quality veterinary care for research animals, partner with investigators to support cutting-edge scientific research, and contribute meaningfully to our animal care and use program. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills across a range of responsibilities - from day-to-day clinical care to regulatory compliance - with mentorship and support from experienced colleagues. This position will also include cross-coverage at our nearby New Brunswick, NJ (NBR) site, offering exposure to GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) studies and broadening your professional foundation.

You will be joining a welcoming team of 8 veterinarians spread across 5 U.S. sites, all united by a shared commitment to animal welfare, scientific excellence, and regulatory integrity. Candidates with an interest in surgical models and anesthesia are especially encouraged to apply - there is ample opportunity to develop and apply these skills here.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality clinical care and accurate record keeping for all laboratory animals, including clinical assessment and diagnoses, treatment planning, management of disease outbreaks, and performance of surgery and anesthesia

  • Serve as a clinical veterinarian at the LVL site, with cross-coverage responsibilities at the NBR site as needed, including veterinary oversight for GLP studies and ensuring compliance with applicable GLP regulations and standards

  • Direct and evaluate animal health surveillance programs; interpret and apply microbiological, serological, and parasitological data to prevent, diagnose, and treat laboratory animal disease

  • Collaborate with scientific staff on experimental protocol design and animal model development, building expertise in translational research models

  • Partner with the VS Global Training Team to implement and deliver training programs for VS staff and research personnel, supporting compliance with all applicable regulations and standards

  • Support the IACUC through rotational veterinary pre-review of all activities involving animals, post-approval monitoring (PAM), and assessment of research personnel technical competencies

  • Contribute to internal projects and cross-site committees, with opportunities to take on increasing responsibility over time

  • Supervise VS staff as assigned, with mentorship provided

  • Provide veterinary care and oversight for a wide range of species, including, but not limited to, rodents, canines, rabbits, swine, and nonhuman primates (NHP).

Qualifications & Experience

DVM, or equivalent degree, plus a current license to practice veterinary medicine in the United States

  • Experience working with laboratory animals, with demonstrated knowledge of their biology, diseases, and handling

  • ACLAM board-eligibility through completion of an ACLAM-approved post-doctoral program or accrual of equivalent experience (preferred).

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and guidelines governing the care and use of laboratory animals (FDA, USDA, IACUC, AAALAC)

  • Understanding of occupational health and safety practices, including PPE use to minimize injury risk and exposure to zoonotic agents

  • Interest in or experience with surgical models and anesthesia in a laboratory animal research setting (preferred)

  • Experience working with large animal species, including nonhuman primates and swine (preferred)

  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team

  • Commitment to upholding BMS Core Values in all aspects of the role
