What's it like to work at the British Council as a Teacher?

Teacher's Success Story

Role Description/Purpose:

We are looking for dedicated teachers to work with students aged 4 to 17, delivering high-quality education to British Council standards. You will be part of a dynamic environment that encourages professional development and active participation in our initiatives.

Our courses focus on building confidence and communication skills through a four-skill approach-reading, writing, listening, and speaking. We emphasize grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation to help students become strong communicators. Beyond language skills, we support whole-child development by fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, digital literacy, collaboration, citizenship, creativity, imagination, leadership, and personal growth.

Lessons are designed to be interactive and engaging, incorporating media such as videos, music, games, and art. Students experience a clear sense of progress with tangible lesson aims, regular feedback, and structured assessments. Learning is reinforced through expertly designed magazines and supplementary materials.

Role Accountabilities

We are looking for passionate and dedicated educators to join our team, delivering young learner lessons with a commitment to high-quality teaching. You will be responsible for planning, preparing, and delivering engaging lessons lasting between three to five hours, including on Saturdays. Supporting student autonomy is key, and you will monitor progress, provide constructive feedback, and counsel students when needed. Your role will also involve contributing to the evaluation, development, and improvement of course materials and related services to ensure they align with students’ needs.

As part of your responsibilities, you will deliver courses according to agreed timetables, effectively plan and manage lessons to meet syllabus and learning objectives, and complete essential administrative tasks, such as maintaining student registers and communicating with parents. If you develop additional materials to supplement the curriculum, ensuring compliance with copyright law will be necessary. You will also agree on a personal learning and development plan that supports both professional and center needs.

Beyond the classroom, you will assist with break monitoring as required and provide teaching cover for absent colleagues when needed. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work within a dynamic and supportive environment, shaping the educational experience of young learners and contributing to their overall growth and success. If you are passionate about teaching and eager to make a difference, we would love to hear from you.
