It involves guiding, supporting, and developing teachers in delivering a full range of courses, providing training, coordinating and developing teaching materials, and contributing to the management of teaching quality, academic programme content, and day-to-day operations.\n\nRole Accountabilities\nThe role is responsible for delivering high-quality English language teaching in line with British Council Global Teaching Standards, meeting learner needs and supporting the organisation’s global English strategy. Key responsibilities include teaching across various course types, developing teaching and assessment materials, supporting teacher development through training and lesson observations, line-managing teachers, assisting with teacher recruitment and talent retention, and deputising for Senior Teachers when required. The role also involves contributing to teaching centre operations, administrative duties, continuous professional development, and the sharing of best practices, while promoting the British Council’s reputation in English language teaching and ensuring compliance with safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI), and health and safety policies.\nRole specific skills, knowledge and experience\nEssential Requirements\nQualifications\nCambridge DELTA/DipTESOL or Trinity Cert TESOL.\nAt least one further specialist qualification, such as YL extension to CELTA, IELTS examiner status, e-moderator certificate.\nUndergraduate degree or equivalent.\nKnowledge and Skills\nAs appropriate within Global British Council Teaching Standards at a HIGHER level\nDemonstrate subject knowledge.\nEngage and motivate learners.\nCreate a positive and inclusive learning environment.\nPlan and deliver coherent lessons.\nMake use of assessment and feedback.\nManage teaching and learning resources.\nUphold professional responsibilities and values.\nEvidence of high performance in class (from evaluations, observation reports, feedback)\nAbility, or demonstrable interest in at least some of the following:\nsyllabus design, teacher timetabling, class scheduling, course planning, teacher observations, teacher training, line management and professional development of teachers.\nWorking with Children and Vulnerable Adults\nAbility to work in a way that promotes the safety and well-being of children and vulnerable adults.\nEffective communication and engagement with children/protected adults and their families.\nKnowledge and understanding of child development and its impact on learning and behaviour.\nExperience of supporting learners to meet Equality, Diversity and Inclusion principles.\nExperience\n4 years post-certificate i.e. CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL experience including substantial experience in all of the following\nYoung learners aged 800+ hours\nAdults English 1500+ hours, including IELTS\nAt least 2 years experience in training and mentoring teachers\nExperience in materials development\nAt least 2 years experience in managing quality to formal standards frameworks\nLine management experience, preferably academic/teacher\nAt least 2 years experience in managing the classroom/customer services interface for business objectives (for example dealing with complaints, re-registrations, parent/student engagement, contracts, client meetings, school partners)\nDesirable Requirements\nExperience of structured teacher development programmes from initial teacher training to advanced levels.\nIELTS Examiner and training status\nOnline teaching qualification and experience Problem based learning\nMasters level qualifications in applied linguistics, ELT, management\nImportant information:\nLanguage: Strong English proficiency is crucial for this role, requiring fluency in both written and spoken communication to effectively navigate British Council systems and international operations.\nWork schedule: Teaching is conducted throughout the week, with teachers working five days per week, including weekends as required. Flexibility and maximum availability on Saturdays and Sundays are expected, as these are the busiest teaching days. Weekend working days are generally consecutive, although this cannot be guaranteed. Classes may be scheduled in the mornings or evenings, and while split shifts are uncommon, they may occasionally be required to meet operational needs.\n Locally recruited: Applications are welcomed from candidates currently in this location with a natural right to work. Relocation support is not provided for this role. \nOverseas Citizen of India (OCI) card holders will need have, or be able to obtain, a valid special work permit issued from Government of India (GOI) to work in the British High Commission (BHC).
