The Broad Institute is a biomedical and genomic research centre founded jointly by MIT and Harvard to tackle problems that need scale beyond a single university laboratory. Its data sciences platform develops machine learning methods for genomics, cancer biology and drug discovery, and maintains widely used open tools, datasets and cloud analysis platforms. The institute also runs one of the largest genome sequencing operations in the world; its researchers work jointly with the two universities and with hospitals across the Boston area.

The Broad Institute's Cancer Dependency Map (DepMap), part of the Cancer Program, aims to comprehensively map cancer vulnerabilities using CRISPR-based functional genomics and other high-throughput screening methods to identify optimal therapeutic targets. DepMap leads the DepMap Consortium, a collaboration with leading pharmaceutical and biotech companies to build this pre-clinical resource, and is a key partner in PedDep, an initiative accelerating target discovery for childhood cancers.

We are seeking an experienced scientist to lead the day-to-day operation of our internal CRISPR screening and profiling platform. This is a production-focused role: you will run and manage large-scale screens as a reliable, high-throughput pipeline - similar to leading a core facility - rather than designing novel experiments.

You'll work closely with experimental scientists, project managers, and data analysts to keep screening data flowing on schedule and at a consistently high standard of quality.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience running CRISPR screens at scale in a production or core-facility setting, and knows how to keep a pipeline running smoothly: staffing, SOPs, timelines, and quality control.

This role offers the chance to build deep expertise in functional genomics infrastructure within a leading cancer research program, with regular exposure to both academic and industry collaborators.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily operations of large-scale CRISPR screens and other high-throughput screening workflows, treating screening as a production pipeline with defined throughput, quality, and turnaround targets.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs covering experimental execution, data acquisition, and quality control.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation across concurrent screens.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of 2+ research associates; coordinate with scientists, project managers, and analysts to keep projects on track.
  • Maintain accurate records in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and ensure data is delivered in a form ready for downstream analysis.
  • Continuously improve pipeline efficiency, reproducibility, and scalability as screening volume grows.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or equivalent experience in Cancer Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or a related field.
  • 3+ years running large-scale CRISPR screens or other high-throughput screening methods.
  • Experience operating in a production-oriented lab environment (e.g., a core facility, screening center, or similar high-throughput operation).
  • Prior experience managing lab personnel.
  • Proficiency with LIMS, electronic lab notebooks (ELNs), and project management software.
  • Strong organizational skills and comfort managing multiple concurrent projects against fixed timelines.
  • Clear communicator, comfortable working across scientific, operational, and data teams.
