With a variety of ESL courses, activities, strategies, and events, the program helps learners overcome linguistic barriers and achieve their academic, economic, and personal goals. This empowers them to give back to their community and contribute meaningfully to society.\nRESPONSIBILITIES\nEducate adult program participants in learning English to Speakers of other Languages. \nProvide instructions to improve participants’ English language communication skills.\nHelp participants to develop oral and written language skills in contextualized areas of interest,\nPlan daily lessons and use a variety of tools to help students become proficient English speakers. \nInstructors are collectively required to engage in at least 6 hours per week of lesson planning or preparation of classes. \nTake student attendance daily. \nTest our ESOL students. \nComplete progress notes monthly. \nHelp with registration. \nOrganize student files. \nPerform additional duties as assigned. \nQUALIFICATIONS\nBachelor’s degree is required. \nKnowledge and experience in adult education learning practices and standards.\nAt least 2 years of successful experience within the 5 last year in providing adult literacy services to low-income adults.\nExperience educating groups at multiple class levels, and experience with testing. \nEngaging personality and detailed orientated skills are essential. \nStrong oral and written communication, time management and organizational skills are necessary. \nProficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other standard business technology is required. \nPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS\nAbility to use a computer for prolonged periods.\nAbility to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.\nAbility to stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time.\nAbility to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents.\nAbility to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation.\nAbility to travel for at least 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of.\nweather, including inclement weather, if required to conduct home visits and/or field work\nBronxWorks seeks to build an inclusive organization grounded in respect for differences.
