The instructor prepares students for employment and industry-recognized credentials by teaching welding fundamentals, safety, equipment operation, welding processes, blueprint and welding symbol interpretation, and industry best practices. Courses may include NCCER curriculum and preparation for industry certifications and may be delivered in classroom and welding lab settings, including evening or weekend schedules.\nResponsibilities\nDeliver instruction in accordance with approved course outlines, learning objectives, and applicable NCCER curriculum requirements.\nTeach welding safety, equipment setup and operation, welding terminology, welding symbols, joint design, base metals, and related trade concepts.\nProvide hands-on instruction in applicable welding processes, including SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and GTAW, based on course curriculum and available equipment.\nPrepare lesson plans, instructional materials, lab exercises, and hands-on learning activities.\nDemonstrate safe and proper use of welding machines, cutting equipment, hand and power tools, personal protective equipment, and related materials.\nEvaluate student progress through written assessments, projects, performance profiles, and hands-on skills demonstrations.\nAdminister and document NCCER knowledge and performance assessments when appropriately credentialed and assigned to do so.\nMaintain attendance, student records, assessment documentation, and other required program and NCCER records.\nEnsure that the welding lab remains safe, organized, and appropriate for instruction.\nReinforce OSHA requirements, shop safety procedures, and safe work practices throughout instruction.\nSupport student success by promoting workforce readiness, employability skills, quality workmanship, and industry expectations.\nCommunicate regularly with CPS staff regarding course progress, student performance, equipment needs, and safety concerns.\nMaintain current knowledge of welding technology, industry practices, safety standards, and workforce trends.\nParticipate in required NCCER instructor certification, training, meetings, professional development, and program quality-assurance activities.\nQualifications\nEducation and Experience\nHigh school diploma or GED.\nMinimum of five (5) years of full-time professional welding, fabrication, or closely related industry experience.\nDemonstrated experience with the welding processes, tools, equipment, materials, and safety practices relevant to the courses being taught.\nAbility to read and interpret welding symbols, blueprints, and fabrication drawings.\nOSHA 10 certification or ability to obtain prior to instruction.\nIn Addition, Candidates Must Possess One or More of the Following:\nCompletion of a registered welding or related apprenticeship;\nJourneyworker status in welding, ironworking, pipefitting, or a related trade;\nAssociate degree, technical diploma, or recognized postsecondary credential in welding or a related field;\nCurrent or previous industry-recognized welding certification, such as an AWS Certified Welder credential; or\nEquivalent combination of documented education, training, credentials, and substantial occupational experience acceptable to the College.\nNCCER Requirements\nFor courses delivered as part of Brookdale's NCCER-accredited training programs, instructors must meet applicable NCCER instructor qualification requirements and successfully complete any required NCCER instructor certification or training.
