See how your contributions will help transform vision into reality:\nPosition Overview:\nThis role exists to lead the system architecture, technical direction, and delivery of Navico’s Android-based core services and SDK platform. The Team Tech Lead is responsible for hands-on development, technical leadership, and cross-functional collaboration across global teams. This role is pivotal in shaping the platform and framework layers above AOSP, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and alignment with future Android releases.\nThe ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with strong architectural vision, and the ability to lead multi-site development efforts that span product, platform, and research initiatives.\nEssential Functions: \nTechnical & Architectural Leadership\nOwn and evolve the architecture of Navico’s platform services and SDK, including launcher, settings, device management, data services, OTA, and more.\n\nDefine and maintain modular, scalable, and testable architecture patterns that support long- term platform evolution and product reuse.\n\nLead the design and implementation of framework layers that abstract and extend AOSP capabilities for Navico’s hardware ecosystem.\n\nEnsure forward compatibility with upcoming Android versions and industry trends in embedded and automotive Android.\n\nDrive architecture reviews, technical design documentation, and system-level decision- making across teams.\n\nHands-On Development\nActively contribute to codebases in Kotlin, Java, C/C++, Python, and embedded Android layers.\n\nGuide the team in adopting best practices in software design, testing, and performance optimization.\n\nChampion CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and infrastructure-as-code for platform delivery.\n\nTeam & Project Leadership\nDirect management of a small team of software engineers.\n\nMentor a globally distributed team of engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.\n\nCollaborate with product management, UX, hardware, and validation teams to align technical solutions with business goals.\n\nSupport multi-site development strategies, ensuring consistency, code quality, and knowledge sharing across regions.\n\nSecurity, Privacy & Compliance\nDefine and enforce security, privacy, and safety requirements across all platform layers.\n\nEnsure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements relevant to embedded and connected systems.\n\nDocumentation & Communication\nProduce and maintain clear, comprehensive technical documentation for internal and external stakeholders.\n\nCommunicate architectural decisions and technical strategies effectively to engineering leadership and executive teams.\n\nDiversity of thought and experiences is fundamental when imagining the unimaginable. Certain skillsets/experiences are necessary; however, others can be developed along the way.\nRequired Qualifications:\n10+ years of experience in a software development and software architecture role.\n\nBachelor’s degree in electrical, computer engineering, computer science or related engineering field.\n\nExperience with Android, Android Automotive, services and SDK development.\n\nKnowledge of embedded software, CANBus, networking, cloud, mobile, hardware, ML.\n\nProven leader of people that can get results and the best of people\n\nExcellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work with a global team/audience.\n\nAbility to meet deadlines; accomplish work in order of priority; professionally maintain composure and effectiveness under pressure and changing conditions.\n\nAbility to negotiate conflict and maintain constructive working relationships with people at all levels of an organization\n\nAbility to support corporate 5 C’s program. Customer Satisfaction, Commercial Edge, Collaboration, Culture of Passion and Performance, and Credibility.\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\nPassion for boating or at least comfortable with product testing on boats.\n\nExperience with Atlasian, Android Studio, GCP, testrail, gherkin and cucumber or similar products.\n\nExperience with IOT connected and secure products and protocols - WiFi, BLE, CAN, NMEA.\n\nFormal management training.\n\nWorking Conditions: \nThis is a hybrid role with a 3 day a week onsite expectation\n\nSome global traveling\n\nThe anticipated pay range for this position is $118,400 to $174,000, annually. The actual base pay offered will vary depending on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, relevant experience, business needs, and geographic location. In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
