Job Title: Standards Engagement Manager
Location: London, Covent Garden

Join BSI as a Standards Engagement Manager and help shape standards that protect people, improve products and services, and support trusted practices across a range of industries.
This is not a technical, regulatory, or auditing role, and previous standards experience is not required. Instead, we're looking for a strong communicator with stakeholder engagement, project management, and facilitation skills who can manage a diverse portfolio of standards committees and projects.
About the role:
In this role, you'll work as part of a team supporting a range of national committees spanning manufacturing, healthcare, mobility, the built environment etc. You'll work with industry experts, government representatives, consumer groups, professional bodies and other stakeholders to develop standards that address current and emerging challenges.
As part of BSI's role as the UK's National Standards Body, you'll facilitate discussions, build consensus, oversee standards development projects, engage with external stakeholders and help identify opportunities for new standards that deliver positive outcomes for society. This is a unique opportunity to support the creation of best practice, support innovation and contribute to work that has national and international impact.

Responsibilities:
- Contribute to managing a portfolio of national committees, ensuring they operate effectively, remain representative of stakeholder interests, and contribute to standards development.
- Provide governance oversight and procedural support to committees, chairs and members in accordance with BSI policies and standards development processes.
- Facilitate committee meetings and standards development activities, supporting stakeholders to achieve consensus and deliver high-quality outcomes.
- Build and maintain relationships with industry experts, trade associations, government bodies, consumer representatives and other key stakeholders.
- Monitor committee performance and participation, identifying risks, issues and opportunities to improve effectiveness and stakeholder engagement.
- Recruit, onboard and support committee members and chairs, ensuring committees are diverse, maintain balanced representation and appropriate expertise.
- Ensure accurate maintenance of committee records, actions and governance documentation within designated systems and processes.
- As part of a team, deliver standards projects to agreed timescales, working closely with internal colleagues across Content, Marketing, Policy and other teams.
- Become an expert in standards development procedures to provide advice and support to committee chairs, experts and stakeholders throughout the standards development process.
- Work collaboratively across BSI teams to deliver an efficient, customer-focused service and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
What we're looking for:
We're open to exploring all professional backgrounds however, experience in volunteer membership management, or sector knowledge can be beneficial. We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate the following:
- Strong communication and facilitation skills, with confidence in leading discussions and engaging diverse stakeholder groups.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships, influence others and manage differing viewpoints constructively.
- Experience of stakeholder engagement, partnership working or committee management.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- A proven ability to work as part of a team, taking responsibility and driving activities forward proactively.
- An awareness of project management, including planning, prioritising and managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Curiosity and a willingness to learn about new industries, technologies and societal challenges.
- The ability to analyse information, identify opportunities and translate insights into action.
- Adaptability to change and learning new processes or ways of working.
Other useful information:
This position is based on a hybrid working model, with attendance at our Covent Garden office required twice per month. We welcome applications from candidates based outside London, provided you are able to travel to the office as needed for committee meetings and other business requirements.

Salary:
The salary for this position is up to £42,400 per annum; actual compensation is based on various factors, including but not limited to; candidate competencies, level of experience, education, location, divisional budget and internal peer compensation comparisons.
