As we continue to scale, we are building the financial infrastructure and accounting team needed to support our growth.\nPOSITION SUMMARY\nBuyWander is seeking an experienced and highly capable Senior Accountant to play a key role in building and maintaining an accurate, scalable accounting function.\nReporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for significant portions of the monthly close process, account reconciliations, inventory accounting, transaction analysis, journal entries, and financial reporting. This role will work closely with the Controller and other business leaders to ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of BuyWander’s financial information.\nThis is a hands on role in a fast growing, multi location business. The right candidate is comfortable digging into complex transactions, solving problems, improving processes, and taking ownership of their work. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accountant who wants to have a meaningful impact and grow with the company.\nKEY RESPONSIBILITIES\nPlay a significant role in the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules.\nPrepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations and investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.\nSupport inventory accounting across multiple locations, including inventory valuation, costing, shrinkage, adjustments, and cost of goods sold.\nReconcile inventory activity and financial records with operational and inventory systems, including BuyWander’s internally developed inventory system, Chuk.\nAnalyze high volume transaction data across auction activity, payment processors, point of sale activity, refunds, and the WanderBucks loyalty program.\nPrepare and post journal entries related to inventory, revenue, payroll, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and other general ledger activity.\nAssist with the application of revenue recognition principles to BuyWander’s auction and marketplace business model, including buyer premiums, winning bid settlements, refunds, and loyalty program activity.\nSupport the reconciliation of daily and monthly cash and payment activity across multiple payment processors and locations.\nAssist with payroll accounting and the preparation of payroll related accruals, including hourly labor costs.\nAssist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other accounting processes as needed.\nSupport the Controller in maintaining accurate accounting records, internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.\nAssist with audit preparation and provide schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation to external auditors.\nSupport tax compliance activities, including sales tax reporting and coordination with external tax professionals.\nHelp maintain and improve the general ledger, chart of accounts, accounting systems, and integrations between operational and financial systems.\nAnalyze financial results and identify unusual activity, trends, errors, and opportunities for improvement.\nAssist in the preparation of financial reports, management reporting, and other analysis for leadership.\nIdentify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen controls, reduce manual work, and increase automation as the company continues to grow.\nPartner with operations and other departments to understand business activity and ensure financial information accurately reflects company operations.\nREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS\nBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.\n4 or more years of progressive accounting experience.\nStrong understanding of US GAAP and general accounting principles.\nExperience participating in and supporting a full monthly close process.\nStrong experience preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial analysis.\nExperience with inventory accounting, including costing, valuation, shrinkage, adjustments, or cost of goods sold.\nStrong Microsoft Excel skills and the ability to work with and analyze large volumes of financial and operational data.\nExperience working with accounting systems and the ability to learn and navigate complex or custom business systems.\nStrong analytical and problem solving skills with excellent attention to detail.\nAbility to investigate discrepancies, identify root causes, and follow issues through to resolution.\nAbility to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast paced, growing environment.\nExcellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both finance and non finance team members.\nA hands on approach and willingness to take ownership of work and contribute wherever needed.\nMust reside and work in the United States and be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future employer sponsorship. \nRequirements\nPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS\nExperience in retail, e commerce, marketplace, liquidation, distribution, or another business involving physical inventory.\nExperience with multi location inventory accounting.\nExperience reconciling high volume transaction data from multiple sources, including payment processors, point of sale systems, e commerce platforms, or marketplace systems.\n Experience with sales tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions.\n Experience supporting external financial statement audits.\n Experience working in a high growth company, startup, or rapidly scaling organization.\n Experience working with internally developed or customized business systems.\nPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS\nThis is primarily a desk based analytical role.
