Headquartered in McLean, VA, By Light supports defense, civilian, and commercial IT customers worldwide.\nPosition Overview\nThe Senior Systems Engineer will play a critical role in the planning, development, and execution of delivery orders (DOs), contributing both as a technical leader and hands-on engineer. This individual will be responsible for guiding systems engineering efforts across the full lifecycle, from initial concept and requirements development through testing, verification, and final delivery.\nThis role requires close collaboration with internal teams and government stakeholders and may involve occasional travel to customer sites or test events. A hybrid work environment is possible when not required to be on-site for customer meetings or test events. The program reserves the right to require on-site work if program execution and success dictates.\nThis is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.\nResponsibilities\nLead and support the development of delivery orders (DOs) from initiation through completion on military simulation system applications\nAnalyze, decompose, and define systems-level requirements aligned with customer needs\nDesign system architectures and ensure integration across multiple subsystems\nDevelop and execute system verification and validation plans\nCoordinate and participate in milestone testing events with government customers\nCoordinate, develop, and deliver technical CDRL documentation in accordance with project DD-1423 and DID requirements\nCoordinate and direct project staff to develop operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting scenarios\nEnsure technical performance, quality, and compliance with contractual requirements\nCollaborate with cross-functional teams including software, graphics, and program management\nServe as the primary technical interface with customers, stakeholders, and end users - building and maintaining relationships throughout the project lifecycle\nOrganize and conduct integration events, technical briefings, and planning events for audiences ranging from instructors and subject matter experts (SMEs) to requirements owners and program leadership\nIdentify risks and develop mitigation strategies throughout the system lifecycle\nProvide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers\nRequired Experience/Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field\n10+ years of experience in systems engineering or related discipline\nDemonstrated experience with systems engineering lifecycle processes (requirements, design, integration, test, and verification)\nExperience with AGILE developmentCertified Scrum Product Owner or Certified Scrum Master is a plus\n\nExperience with development in high fidelity game engines (Unity Preferred)\nMS Office applications including MS Project\nExperience working with government customers and understanding of DoD acquisition processes\nStrong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills\nAbility to lead technical efforts and manage competing priorities\nPreferred Experience/Qualifications\nExperience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools and methodologies\nFamiliarity with systems engineering standards (e.g., INCOSE, ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288)\nPrior experience supporting defense or aerospace programs\nExperience with Flight Simulator Development and Delivery\nExperience with Wartsila NTPRO\nExperience with image generators and dome visual display systems\nSpecial Requirements/Security Clearance\nAbility to obtain a Security
