Headquartered in McLean, VA, By Light supports defense, civilian, and commercial IT customers worldwide.\nPosition Overview\nThe Test Engineer will play a critical role in the planning, development, and execution of delivery orders (DOs), contributing as a hands-on individual contributor. This individual will be responsible for assisting in systems engineering efforts across the full lifecycle, from initial concept and requirements development through testing, verification, and final delivery, focusing on testing and ensuring that the system that is being built can be efficiently tested. The ideal candidate has solid experience in systems engineering, enjoys solving complex technical problems, and can work independently with moderate supervision.\nThis role requires close collaboration with internal teams, external suppliers, and government stakeholders and involves occasional travel to customer sites or supplier locations. A hybrid work environment is possible when not required to be on-site for customer meetings or test events. The program reserves the right to require on-site work if program execution and success dictates.\nThis is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 9:00a a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.\nResponsibilities\nDesign and implement test protocols for military simulation systems, subsystems, and components\nLead verification and validation (V&V), including test planning, execution, and documentation\nAssist in system, subsystem, and component assembly in the lab and at customer sites\nEnsure compliance with government standards, cybersecurity requirements, and program specifications\nCollaborate with cross-functional teams including software, graphics, and program management\nDevelop and maintain technical documentation (e.g., CDRLs)\nParticipate in design reviews (SPR, PDR, CDR) and technical interchange meetings\nTroubleshoot system-level issues and support root cause analysis in lab and field environments\nContribute to risk management, configuration control, and change management processes\nRequired Experience/Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in Engineering or 3 years experience as a test engineer for defense or aerospace systems\nExperience with system lifecycle processes (requirements, design, integration, test, sustainment)\nExperience with requirements management tools\nAbility to read and interpret technical drawings, interface control documents, and specifications\nStrong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills\nEffective communication and collaboration skills\nAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment\nDetail-oriented with a focus on system reliability and performance\nPreferred Experience/Qualifications\nPrior experience working on military flight simulators\nPrior experience
