You will partner closely with engineering product managers, business stakeholders, and other leaders to define, estimate, and design complex, strategic solutions that delight our customers. If you are someone not only comfortable using modern AI development tools, but is genuinely curious about how to build reliable, production-grade automation and autonomous agents in an enterprise environment, let’s talk!\nThis role can be based only in MN, IL or Kansas City\nDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES\nThe duties and responsibilities of this position consist of, but are not limited to, the following:\nLead the design and development of scalable software solutions that modernize and automate complex workflows across Global Forwarding\nTranslate ambiguous business and customer problems into durable technical solutions spanning pricing and rating, carrier contracts, shipment planning and execution, booking, visibility, documents, and operational workflows\nDesign and build AI-enabled and agentic solutions that automate repetitive knowledge work, assist with complex decision-making, and reduce manual intervention across the shipment lifecycle\nIdentify opportunities to apply large language models, intelligent agents, workflow orchestration, retrieval-augmented generation, and other AI capabilities to real business processes\nDevelop AI-assisted workflows that can interpret unstructured and semi-structured information, take appropriate actions across systems, and safely escalate exceptions to people when human judgment is required\nEstablish patterns for reliable enterprise AI, including evaluation, observability, human-in-the-loop controls, grounding, security, auditability, and appropriate guardrails\nExperiment rapidly with emerging AI and agentic technologies, validate their business value, and evolve successful prototypes into maintainable production capabilities\nDefine interfaces and develop code across applications, APIs, services, data platforms, and shared capabilities; influence architectural direction across multiple product areas\nPartner with product, engineering, operations, and business stakeholders to deeply understand Global Forwarding workflows and identify opportunities for automation, simplification, and improved decision support\nDesign solutions for high-volume operational environments where automation, resiliency, performance, and low-touch execution are critical\nBuild integrations across a highly interconnected Global Forwarding ecosystem, including internal platforms, APIs, carrier systems, external partners, messaging, and event-driven architectures\nProvide technical leadership across initiatives that span multiple engineering teams and business domains, helping teams align on reusable patterns and common capabilities\nIncrease code quality through design reviews, code reviews, automated testing, and engineering best practices\nOptimize, refactor, and reuse existing capabilities to improve performance, maintainability, scalability, and return on technology investment\nProactively identify performance, reliability, availability, and security risks and drive resolution across multiple systems or product areas\nWrite secure software and incorporate security, privacy, and data-governance considerations into traditional and AI-enabled solutions\nDevelop and maintain thorough technical documentation, architectural guidance, and reusable engineering patterns\nEstimate software initiatives including dependencies, scope, effort, resources, technical risk, and skill needs\nMaintain deep awareness of emerging technologies and proactively identify where advances in AI, cloud, automation, and software engineering can create meaningful business value\nMentor and coach software engineers through architecture discussions, design and code reviews, pairing, knowledge sharing, and technical leadership\nCollaborate with engineering and product leadership to unblock teams, resolve complex technical problems, and successfully deliver high-quality software\nWork across organizational boundaries to reduce duplication, strengthen shared platform capabilities, and help evolve a cohesive Global Forwarding technology ecosystem\nOther duties or responsibilities as assigned according to the team and/or country-specific requirements\nRequired Qualifications:\n8+ years of experience developing and implementing commercial software\nStrong experience designing and developing applications in an object-oriented environment (ex. C#, .NET)\nExperience designing distributed systems, APIs, services, and integrations across multiple applications or domains\nExperience with database design and development using relational databases (ex. MS SQL, Oracle), including schema design, stored procedures, performance tuning, and optimization\nExperience with non-relational databases and modern data-storage patterns\nExperience with HTTP, REST APIs, event-driven architectures, and asynchronous processing\nExperience with unit, integration, acceptance, and automated testing strategies\nExperience with version control systems (ex. Git, GitHub, TFS, etc.)\nExperience with CI/CD and modern software delivery practices\nDemonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems that span multiple systems, teams, or business domains\nAbility to quickly understand complex business processes and translate them into scalable, maintainable technical solutions\nDemonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and influence architecture without relying solely on formal authority\nStrong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to engineering, product, business, and operational stakeholders\nBachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IS, MIS, or other technology degree or minimum 6 years of equivalent work experience and high school diploma/GED\nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience applying generative AI, large language models, or agentic technologies to production business workflows\nExperience building AI-powered applications using capabilities such as tool/function calling, structured outputs, retrieval-augmented generation, prompt orchestration, multi-step agents, or workflow-based AI systems\nExperience developing evaluation frameworks for AI systems, including quality measurement, regression testing, hallucination detection, grounding, and human-in-the-loop review\nExperience with AI observability, governance, security, privacy, and responsible deployment patterns in an enterprise environment\nExperience using AI coding assistants and agentic software-development tools to accelerate engineering productivity while maintaining software quality\nExperience automating workflows involving unstructured documents, email, natural-language requests, operational exceptions, or complex decision-making\nExperience with transportation, logistics, freight forwarding, supply chain, or similarly complex operational systems\nExperience with pricing, rating, carrier contracts, order management, shipment execution, booking, tracking, planning, or related logistics capabilities\nExperience building cloud-native applications and services (ex. Azure, AWS, GCP)\nExperience with data streaming and messaging technologies (ex.
