The Opportunity:

The Exercise Assessment Specialist provides end to end support for assessment design, data collection, analysis and reporting for AFRICOM J37 exercises. This role ensures assessments meet Joint Staff J7 and DoW requirements and enable Senior Leaders to make informed training and operations decisions.

Responsibilities:

-Develop comprehensive assessment frameworks tied to training objectives, Joint Learning Areas, Universal Joint Tasks, and command priorities.

-Work with AFRICOM J8 assessors to produce data-driven methodologies and collection tools.

-Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis, including surveys, SME interviews, observer inputs, and structured analytic techniques.

-Synthesize findings into actionable insights and recommendations to refine future exercises and operational practices.

-Produce high-level analytical products, including assessment summaries, insights reports, trend analyses, and after-action documentation.

-Support exercises from design through execution, hotwash, and after-action review, ensuring continuity of learning across events.

-Integrate AI/ML-enabled assessment tools and advanced visualization platforms when available.

-Create Senior Leader briefings detailing project impacts, cost/benefit analysis, risks, and alignment with long-term command objectives.

Qualifications:

Required-

-Master's degree in a related field and 3 years specialized experience, or a Bachelor's degree in a related field and 6 years specialized experience, or 10 years of specialized experience.

-7+ years of experience in exercise assessment or military training evaluation.

-Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative analytic techniques.

-TS/SCI clearance required.

Desired:

-Master’s degree in analytics, operations research, or related discipline.

-Experience with AI/ML-enabled assessment tools.

-Prior work with AFRICOM or Joint Staff J7.

-Strong report writing and presentation skills.

-Experience supporting large-scale exercises and after-action reviews.

There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications.
