The role is responsible for airframe structural technical matters, regulatory compliance, airworthiness assessments, defect investigation, modification evaluation and the provision of technical support to Continuing Airworthiness, Maintenance Watch, Flight Operations and approved maintenance providers.\nThe successful candidate will have substantial aircraft engineering experience, strong analytical and troubleshooting capability, and the ability to provide practical engineering advice in a safety-critical airline environment.\nKey Responsibilities\nProvide specialist technical support relating to aircraft airframes, mechanical systems and structural engineering.\n\nEnsure compliance with applicable requirements issued by CASA PNG, Transport Canada, the FAA, EASA and CASA Australia within the role's areas of responsibility.\n\nReview State of Design Airworthiness Directives and complete the required Maintenance Data Assessments.\n\nEvaluate service bulletins, service letters and other technical literature issued by aircraft and equipment manufacturers.\n\nConduct technical assessments and recommend appropriate compliance or implementation actions.\n\nProvide troubleshooting and engineering support to the Continuing Airworthiness team and approved maintenance providers.\n\nResearch and investigate aircraft maintenance defects, failures and adverse technical findings.\n\nProvide technical guidance regarding repairs, parts, overhauls, modifications, sampling programmes and preventative or condition-monitoring programmes.\n\nIdentify, monitor and analyse recurring defects and adverse maintenance trends.\n\nDevelop and recommend appropriate corrective and preventative actions.\n\nProvide Aircraft on Ground technical assistance and advice to Maintenance Watch when required.\n\nLiaise with aircraft manufacturers, equipment vendors, engineering organisations and approved maintenance providers regarding structural and airframe technical matters.\n\nConduct technical and economic evaluations of proposed aircraft modifications.\n\nDevelop modification proposals where necessary and prepare appropriate submissions for approval and embodiment.\n\nEnsure all approved modification actions are properly implemented and followed through to completion.\n\nEvaluate technical specifications for new equipment, products and processes and recommend their suitability for approved use.\n\nAssist with the development and final acceptance of technical specifications for aircraft being introduced into service.\n\nReview airworthiness requirements and technical specifications and recommend appropriate methods of compliance.\n\nEnsure company-initiated changes to manufacturer specifications and technical manuals are properly assessed and technically justified.\n\nAdvise Flight Operations of changes arising from aircraft modifications that may affect aircraft operation.\n\nProvide technical assistance to Flight Operations on operational matters relating to airframe and structural engineering.\n\nSupport Continuing Airworthiness and MRO teams with the implementation and ongoing use of relevant technical information systems.\n\nMaintain effective liaison with Production, Quality Assurance, Technical Materials, Maintenance Planning and other technical departments.\n\nProvide engineering research and advisory support to other departments as required.\n\nProvide backup support to Reliability and other Technical Services Engineers when directed.\n\nApply the organisation's safety-management principles and corporate safety requirements across all activities.\n\nUndertake other technical duties assigned by the Manager, Technical Services.\n\nQualifications and Experience\nCandidates should have:\nExtensive aircraft engineering experience, preferably gained in a senior aviation engineering or technical services role.\n\nDemonstrated experience in aircraft airframe, structural or mechanical engineering.\n\nRelevant formal aircraft engineering qualifications.\n\nExperience assessing Airworthiness Directives, manufacturer service literature and maintenance data.\n\nExperience investigating aircraft defects, failures, repairs and recurring technical trends.\n\nPrevious involvement in aircraft modifications, technical evaluations or aircraft acquisition and introduction into service.\n\nGeneral airline experience and a sound understanding of commercial or private aircraft operations.\n\nExperience working within a Continuing Airworthiness Management environment.\n\nFamiliarity with airline maintenance systems, technical documentation and document-control processes.\n\nTertiary qualifications in an engineering or related discipline are desirable but not essential.\n\nRegulatory and Technical Knowledge\nCandidates should possess knowledge of:\nCASA PNG Civil Aviation Rules and applicable legislative requirements.\n\nContinuing Airworthiness Management systems and manuals.\n\nAirworthiness Directives and Maintenance Data Assessments.\n\nManufacturer service literature and technical manuals.\n\nAircraft structural repair and modification requirements.\n\nMaintenance and overhaul documentation.\n\nReliability, defect monitoring and condition-monitoring programmes.\n\nSafety-management systems and aviation quality
