The position ensures reliable electrical service through inspection, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of electrical systems and equipment. Work includes oversight of contractor work performed under a master electrician’s license and occasional training of other personnel. The position operates primarily in field environments and is performed under general supervision.\nEssential Job Functions\nPerforms inspection, diagnosis, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of electrical systems, circuits, and components in County facilities.\nConducts routine inspections to identify hazards, deficiencies, and code violations. Installs conduit, pulls wire, programs controllers, develops schematics and ladder diagrams, and tests equipment for proper operation.\nMaintains machinery and electrical equipment and performs voltage, continuity, and resistance testing.\nReads and interprets blueprints, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and applicable electrical and building codes.\nMaintains maintenance schedules and documentation of work performed. Performs preventative maintenance to reduce equipment wear and operational failures.\nMaintains inventory of supplies, tools, and assigned vehicles.\nOperates specialized equipment including bucket trucks, lifts, meters, and underground cable locators.\nParticipates in a rotating on-call schedule to respond to emergency electrical issues.\nOther Duties\nPerforms related work as required.\nKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities (These are pre-employment KSA that apply only to Essential Job Functions.)\nKnowledge of -\nCommercial and industrial electrical systems, components, and installation methods.\nElectrical materials, tools, equipment, and applicable local, state, and national electrical codes.\nElectrical testing procedures, troubleshooting practices, and diagnostic techniques.\nAbility to --\nRead and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams accurately.\nInstall, maintain, test, and repair electrical systems safely and effectively.\nWork at heights, in confined spaces, and under varying environmental conditions.\nMaintain accurate records, reports, and related documentation.\nCommunicate effectively with supervisors, contractors, County staff, and others encountered in the course of work.\nPerform physically demanding skilled trade work in a safe and efficient manner.\nRequired Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.)\nTraining and/or Education:\nHigh school diploma or GED equivalent.\nExperience:\nFive (5) years of progressively responsible electrical experience in commercial or industrial settings.\nLicenses or Certificates:\nRegistration as a Journeyman Electrician with the State of Maryland.\nValid driver’s license and a current Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with Federal Regulations.\nSpecial Requirements:\nOperation of County owned vehicles.\nSubject to background investigation.\nPhysical Demands:\nWork requires strenuous physical effort including frequent climbing, standing, bending, and working in confined spaces.\nThe position requires regular lifting of objects up to 100 pounds, working at heights, and operating heavy and specialized equipment.\nThe majority of work is performed in field conditions.\nUnusual Demands:\nThe position is subject to rotating on-call duty and emergency response requirements.\nWork is frequently performed in outdoor environments and may involve exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, dirt, dust, and high-voltage electrical systems.\nFLSA Status:\nNon-exempt\nCompensation Steps:\nPay rate: $28.31 - $32.50 per hour; $51,524 - $59,150 annually\nGrade 720, full-time position, 35 hours per week\nDepartment of Public Works\nPosition closing date: October 1, 2026\nPlease Note: This position will close at 11:59 p.m. on October 1, 2026.
