The work involves light to heavy maintenance and repair of automotive and heavy equipment. The work requires training in the trade and experience. Work is performed under technical supervision.\nEssential Job Functions\nMaintains repairs and/or performs preventive maintenance on all County owned and maintained equipment, heavy motor equipment and vehicles.\nPerforms diagnostics to determine problems and repairs.\nMaintains and repairs power saws, power pruners, weedeaters and other equipment assigned to the Highway Maintenance Division.\nSupervises and assigns work to other mechanics in the absence of the Equipment Repair Supervisor.\nPrepares service/work orders detailing service or repair work performed and parts used in order to bill outside agencies or division budgets as required.\nContacts vendors to order parts, supplies and/or check prices of repair parts.\nOperates service truck for road and field calls, to pick up parts and supplies, and to transport vehicles to and from garages for specialized work.\nCleans shops; checks/maintains shop equipment to ensure proper working order.\nRotates assigned workstation to include open bay and service truck to repair a variety of equipment.\nDismounts and mounts of heavy-duty equipment tires.\nOther Duties\nOperates salt and/or sand loader to load trucks, operates trucks to plow snow and spread salt in snow/ice removal operations.\nAssists with storm clean up.\nPerforms related work as required.\nKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities (These are pre-employment KSA that apply only to Essential Job Functions.)\nKnowledge of--\nMethods, procedures and techniques of the automotive repair trade.\n\nTools, materials, equipment and safety precautions of the trade.\n\nAbility to--\nPerform light to heavy automotive repairs.\n\nDeal effectively with the public.\n\nUse of tools and equipment of the trade.\n\nRequired Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.)\nTraining and/or Education:\nHigh school diploma or GED equivalent, including or supplemented by training in automotive and heavy equipment repair.\nExperience:\nFive years of experience performing maintenance and repair to include three years of experience with maintenance to heavy-duty diesel engines.\nLicenses or Certificates:\nValid Class B commercial driver’s license and a current Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with Federal Regulations within six months of employment.
