You'll define the application architecture and work with embedded, systems, and test engineers to build reliable, responsive operator tools. You'll take features from prototype to field-deployed software, and your work will directly shape how operators monitor, command, and trust our systems.\nResponsibilities\nWork with the wider engineering team to identify and define the architecture of our application software\nBuild fast, well-tested backend services in Rust OR operator interfaces in Flutter, with accreditation in mind\nDesign clear, robust interfaces between the ground station, vehicles, sensors, and third-party systems\nWork with operators and stakeholders to turn operational needs into intuitive, low-workload user interfaces\nScope and expand our CI, automated testing, and release infrastructure\nContribute to technical decisions, code reviews and engineering best practice across our applications\nRequirements\nExperience developing ground control systems, with evidence of technical ownership from requirements through integration and test\nStrong commercial experience with Rust, including asynchronous and concurrent application design OR\nExperience building production user interfaces in Flutter/Dart\nA good understanding of UI/UX principles, especially for operator-facing, safety- or mission-critical displays\nExperience integrating with external hardware and systems over network and serial interfaces, including fault handling and recovery\nPractical experience with field trials, system integration, log and data analysis, and fault diagnosis\nA strong grasp of software engineering practice: automated testing, version control, CI/CD, and code review\nPreferred Qualifications/Experience\nExperience with Tokio and the async Rust ecosystem\nExperience with gRPC and Protocol Buffers for service and client-server interfaces\nExperience with other ground station or command-and-control systems, for example UAS ground control, mission planning, telemetry and video handling, map-based situational awareness, or radar and sensor integration\nFamiliarity with vehicle communication protocols\nExperience building simulation, hardware-in-the-loop, or integration test environments for automated validation\nExperience with Linux-based deployment, secure software delivery, or packaging for fielded systems\nExperience in a fast-paced R&D or startup environment with rapid prototype iteration\nWhat We Offer\nCompetitive compensation and stock options \nPrivate Medical & Dental \nCycle to work scheme \nLunchtime catering on site \nAbout Us\nThe mission of Cambridge Aerospace is to eliminate the risk of existential war in Europe. That risk comes from the air - low-cost drones and cruise missiles now manufactured in colossal volumes by our adversaries, ballistic missiles capable of ending the world as we know it, and a new generation of hypersonic weapons that evade every existing defence.\nWe’re building low-cost interceptors that defeat these threats, and the surveillance systems to detect and target them - at a cost taxpayers can afford, at the pace the threat demands, and with sovereign supply chains that assure delivery.\nWe have immense backing from the world’s best venture funds. We’re one of the fastest growing defence technology companies in history. And we’re hiring the best engineers to prosecute the mission. If you are in the top 1%, willing to work harder than you ever have, build technology better than anyone else, and contribute to the defining challenge of our time, now is the time to join us.\nOur Commitment to Inclusion\nWe’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace. If you’re excited about this role but don’t meet every requirement, we still encourage you to apply.","description_format":"text","description_chars":3895,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Stock options"],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Missiles","Air Defense","Defense Manufacturing"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-27T12:25:21Z"}],"visa":[{"country":"GB","licensed_sponsor":true,"evidence":"Licensed UK visa sponsor (Skilled Worker)","filings_12m":null,"filings_prev_12m":null,"green_card_filings_12m":null,"median_offered_wage_usd":null,"route":"Skilled Worker","cap_exempt":false,"checked_at":"2026-10-30T06:20:16+00:00","sources":["UK Home Office: register of licensed sponsors (workers)"],"filings_for_role_12m":0}],"liveness":{"score":63,"band":"ok","label":"Likely open","p_open":1,"p_active":0.632,"p_room":1,"age_days":2,"expected_fill_days":61,"reasons":["conf:2","stale_co","velocity","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-10-30T05:48:23Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/cambridge-aerospace-application-software-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/cambridge-aerospace-application-software-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-30T10:30:06Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":15123,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-31T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":1966424},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=1966424"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fcambridge-aerospace-application-software-engineer"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fcambridge-aerospace-application-software-engineer"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fcambridge-aerospace-application-software-engineer"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/cambridge-aerospace-application-software-engineer\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fcambridge-aerospace-application-software-engineer"}],"agent":{"mcp":"https://alion.io/mcp/jobs","mcp_open":"https://alion.io/mcp/open","next":[{"tool":"get_job","arguments":{"id":3332526}},{"tool":"search_jobs","arguments":{"company":"cambridgeaerospace.com","detail":"compact"}},{"tool":"match_people","arguments":{"job_id":3332526},"note":"people open to offers who fit this vacancy"}],"note":"The same data through MCP tools: https://alion.io/mcp/open needs no sign-in (compact searches, postings, people); https://alion.io/mcp with an Alion account has everything.
