What to expect day to day
The Mechanical Design Engineeris responsible fordesigning, developing, andoptimizingcutting-edgeelectro-mechanical products for the Energy Utilities and Renewables industries. As a member of the Mechanical Engineering team, you will develop complex industrial products whilst ensuring our products meet stringent performance and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Develop,testand evaluate mechanical designs for the Energy industryin accordance withCamlin NPI process, whilecomplying withindustry standards and regulations.
- Apply sound knowledge of engineering principles to evaluate mechanical and electro-mechanical products.
- Mentor junior engineers,providingtechnical guidance, best practices, and support for skill development.
- Create andmaintainengineering drawings, technicalspecificationsand test plansin accordance withCamlin best practice.
- Create andmaintainBills of Materials (BoM) and work with Purchasing to identifyappropriate suppliers.
- Ensure that products will perform consistently in specified operating environments, meeting Camlinqualityand customer expectations.
- Contribute to oversight and management of Camlin’s Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system including quality checks of engineering changes, administration of user roles and supporting CAD integration with PLM.
- Apply Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFM, DFA) techniques, including standardisation of processes and technologies, to ensure cost-effective and efficient design.
- Collaborate with other engineering functions, and other departments including the Operations team.
- Take active part in design reviews, design evaluations, and testing to uphold high-quality standards.
- Proactively challenge and drive the organisation to continually improve quality and performance of engineering design.
Essential Requirements
- A minimum 2:1 degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline, or practical work experiencecommensurateto a 3rdlevel education.
- A minimum of3years’ experience in a mechanical engineeringenvironmentwith a focus onproductdesign and/ordevelopment.
- Experience with Solid Edge or similar CAD packages.
- Comprehensive understanding of core mechanical engineering principles.
- Ability to design cost effective solutions from specifications against agreed budget and timescale requirements.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to address technical challenges.
- Ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands.
- Strong interpersonal skills tofacilitateeffective collaboration within the team and with other departments.
Desirable
The following skills will be valuable but are not essential:
- Experiencewithprototype testing/ verificationand failure analysis.
- Practical, hands-on experience, withpart manufactureandprototype assembly.
