The role will support the underwriting and development of a worldwide portfolio of construction and engineering risks, including Contractors All Risks and Erection All Risks, within the wider Natural Resources and Heavy Industries proposition. You will combine disciplined risk selection and technical underwriting judgement with strong broker and client engagement, contributing to profitable portfolio growth and the continued development of Canopius’ market expertise in complex engineering risks.\nResponsibilities will include\nExecute new and renewal underwriting in line with the business plan, underwriting authority, risk appetite, underwriting guidelines and documentation standards.\n\nAssess complex engineering and construction risks, applying technical underwriting analysis to risk quality, pricing, terms, conditions, limits and attachment points.\n\nContribute to the creation and revision of underwriting guidelines, policies and frameworks for Engineering insurance products across a range of risk sizes.\n\nAct as a technical subject matter expert, providing advice on Engineering products, services, priorities and target markets and helping brokers and clients understand material risk exposures.\n\nUse risk analytics, portfolio information and market insight to support account and portfolio decisions, identify concentrations and opportunities, and contribute to plans to increase Canopius’ share in target segments.\n\nBuild and maintain trusted relationships with brokers, clients and internal stakeholders, representing Canopius positively in market meetings and relevant industry forums.\n\nContribute to business development and product development opportunities, including collaboration across Natural Resources and other relevant underwriting teams.\n\nMonitor market conditions, emerging technologies, regulation and loss trends relevant to construction and engineering risks and translate these developments into underwriting decisions.\n\nSupport peer review, underwriting governance, audits and the consistent application of underwriting standards and controls.\n\nProvide technical guidance and knowledge sharing to colleagues, contributing to the development of underwriting capability across the team.\n\nAnd other ad hoc duties as required.\nRelevant Skills and Experience\nStrong technical knowledge of Engineering and Construction insurance, with experience of underwriting complex risks in the London and/or international specialty insurance market.\n\nExperience assessing construction and engineering exposures, including Contractors All Risks and Erection All Risks.\n\nStrong risk selection, technical underwriting analysis, pricing and negotiation capability.\n\nAbility to interpret technical risk information and use data and analysis to support underwriting decisions.\n\nGood understanding of portfolio management, market dynamics and the external environment affecting engineering and construction risks.\n\nCommercially minded, with the ability to develop business opportunities while maintaining underwriting discipline.\n\nConfident communicator able to build effective relationships with brokers, clients and colleagues across multiple disciplines.\n\nAbility to contribute to underwriting strategy, product development and continuous improvement.","description_format":"text","description_chars":3550,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Financial Services","Property & Casualty Insurance","Reinsurance"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-20T16:56:08Z"}],"visa":[{"country":"GB","licensed_sponsor":true,"evidence":"Licensed UK visa sponsor (Senior or Specialist Worker, Skilled Worker)","filings_12m":null,"filings_prev_12m":null,"green_card_filings_12m":null,"median_offered_wage_usd":null,"route":"Global Business Mobility: Senior or Specialist Worker;
