The lab also actively collaborates with national and international partners in the fields of: Pediatric and hereditary cancer biology and modeling; Oriented cell division mechanisms; and Precision oncology initiatives.\nProject Focus (Representative Areas) and Responsibilities\nApplicants may contribute to one or more of the following:\n1. Epithelial cell fate and division orientation\nMechanisms controlling symmetric vs asymmetric division\nRole of spindle orientation in differentiation and tumor initiation\n2. Epithelial - immune cell interactions in hereditary cancer syndromes\nFunctional consequences of BRCA1 pathway perturbation\nNovel strategies for cancer prevention\n3. Cell division regulation in epithelial tissue architecture\n4. Translational cancer modeling\nPatient-derived mammary epithelial systems\nIn vivo modeling of cancer predisposition states\nThe fellow will be responsible for conducting basic/translational research in one or more of the above research focus areas, design and execute research plans and perform data analyses, contribute to writing manuscripts and grants, present research findings in internal and external meetings, and mentor junior trainees in the laboratory.\nRequired qualifications\n1. PhD in Cell Biology, Cancer Biology, Developmental Biology, Biochemistry,\nor related field. The ideal candidate should have obtained their PhD within\nthe last 2 years and possess the ability to work independently and\ndemonstrate creativity.\n2. Strong expertise in at least one of the following:\nEpithelial biology or organoid systems; Epithelial-Immune cell interactions;\nCell division / mitosis / spindle dynamics\n3. Proven record of first-author publications in high-impact journals\n4. Experience with at least one of the following:\nLive-cell imaging or advanced microscopy; Mouse models or genetically engineered systems; Primary cell culture or organoid systems; Molecular perturbation (CRISPR, RNAi, etc.)\nPreferred qualifications\nBackground in epithelia - immune interactions\nExperience in epithelial polarity or tissue architecture\nDemonstrated ability to lead projects independently\nWillingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in\nconflict with one’s own.\nDemonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness,\nknowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.\nWhat We Offe r\nOpportunity to work on fundamentally important questions in cancer\nbiology and prevention\nIntegration in multiple national and international interdisciplinary research\nteams, including early phase clinical studies\nAccess to human tissue models and state-of-the-art imaging platforms\nStrong mentorship toward academic independence or research scientist\ncareers\nThe expected salary for this position is $65,000 per annum.\nThe Faculty of Medicine is committed to offering equitable and competitive salaries, commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate.\nApplication procedure\nTo apply, please submit the following as one PDF file via https://ubc.wd10.myworkdayjobs.com/ubcfacultyjobs (JR#):\nCurriculum Vitae (including publication list)\nCover letter describing research interests, career goals, and a brief\nsummary of prior research accomplishments (1-2 pages)\nContact information for three referees\nShould you have any queries around this position, please contact Brenda Tse at \nApplications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and will continue until the position is filled.
