Capgemini is a French information technology services and consulting group founded in Grenoble in 1967 by Serge Kampf, and one of the largest IT service providers in the world. It designs, builds and runs systems for large enterprises and governments across some fifty countries, with a delivery workforce concentrated in India and a European client base heavier than most of its competitors. The group is organised into Capgemini Invent for strategy and design, Capgemini Engineering for research and development services acquired with Altran, and Sogeti for local technology services, and it has reoriented its portfolio around cloud migration, data platforms and generative AI.

About the job you're considering

Our Data & Intelligence Portfolio continues to experience significant growth, driven by new client engagements and increasing demand across our existing accounts. As demand continues to exceed forecasts, we are expanding our permanent engineering capability to support delivery excellence, strengthen our technical leadership community, and build sustainable capability for future growth.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our growing engineering team and play a key role in delivering high-quality data solutions within a fast-paced, agile environment.

We’re looking for someone who thrives in a fast-moving delivery environment and is comfortable adapting to changing priorities while staying focused on outcomes. You will take ownership and accountability for delivery, bring a continuous improvement mindset, and actively look for ways to improve quality, efficiency and customer outcomes through innovation, modern engineering practices and new technologies. Just as importantly, you will be collaborative and team-focused, showing leadership through clear framing, calm decision-making, and the ability to bring your team along on the journey by building shared understanding, explaining the ‘why’, and helping people stay aligned through change. Experience mentoring junior engineers and supporting others to build confidence and capability is also important.

Hybrid working: The places that you work from day to day will vary according to your role, your needs, and those of the business;

it will be a blend of Company offices, client sites, and your home; noting that you will be unable to work at home 100% of the

time.

If you are successfully offered this position, you will go through a series of pre-employment checks, including:

identity, nationality (single or dual) or immigration status, employment history going back 3 continuous years, and unspent

criminal record check (known as Disclosure and Barring Service)

Your role

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will lead multiple teams in designing, building and optimising scalable data solutions across modern and existing services, while supporting the successful delivery of complex client programmes. Where you are leading across multiple teams, you will set the technical direction through the individual technical leads, helping them understand priorities, dependencies, delivery outcomes and the standards expected across their teams.

This role requires someone who can framework clearly, create alignment across teams, and provide the conditions for engineers to deliver confidently and consistently. You will be expected to adapt quickly to changing priorities, support continuous improvement initiatives, and leverage emerging technologies, including AI, to improve productivity, delivery speed and solution quality.

You will lead in uncertain and evolving delivery environments by helping technical leads and their teams navigate change, make pragmatic engineering decisions, and stay focused on quality and delivery commitments. The role requires someone who can set the tone for delivery, role model good engineering behaviours, and bring others with them through coaching, constructive challenge and clear communication.

Your skills and experience

  • Set clear expectations, frame delivery goals, and produce practical engineering plans.
  • Explain the ‘why’ behind decisions, build shared understanding, and encourage open collaboration across teams.
  • Provide coaching, constructive feedback to support engineers’ development.
  • Support continuous improvement activities to improve team productivity and delivery performance.
  • Help teams identify and remove delivery bottlenecks.

Quality & Testing

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of test principles, test automation and quality engineering practices.
  • Ensure your teams build quality into engineering solutions from the outset, and support reliable and robust delivery.
  • Recognise the value of testing specialists in ensuring solutions meet functional and non-functional requirements, and ensure your teams have the right balance of development and testing capability to support quality delivery.
  • Encourage automation of testing where appropriate.

AI-Driven Engineering & Efficiency

  • Champion the use of AI-assisted engineering tools and techniques.
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity through automation and AI-enabled delivery.
  • Drive continuous improvement across development, testing, documentation and knowledge sharing.
