Working with us will mean delivering critical digital services from cradle to grave working on a variety of projects featuring high-performance cloud platforms using Java based languages and technologies, and on-premises traditional infrastructure.\nAs a member of our self-empowered, multi-disciplined teams, you’ll have the freedom to shape the way you work using the latest industry practices, tools and technologies, while collaborating in our mature Agile environment alongside specialists from other disciplines.\nAdditionally, we expect Lead Quality Engineers to possess advanced technical expertise, strong problem-solving abilities, and a proven track record of leading complex engineering projects. This role requires a deep understanding of engineering principles, quality assurance, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment.\nHybrid working: Your working location will vary depending on your role, personal needs, and business requirements. This will typically include a mix of company offices, client sites, and remote work from home. If your location is Telford or Hove you will be expected to work from the office between 40% and 70% of the time. For all other locations you need to be prepared to come into the Telford or Hove office once to twice a month (Lead Engineers more frequently). As we align closely with customer requirements-which may change over time-you will need to remain flexible. Please note that fully remote working (100% from home) is not permitted.\nYour role\nAs a Quality Engineer, you'll play a key role in assuring the quality of complex software solutions, working across both system-to-system and user interface-based projects. You'll collaborate closely with delivery teams to drive quality throughout the development lifecycle, applying modern engineering practices and helping teams build reliable, scalable, and high-performing solutions.\nAs a Senior Quality Engineer, you will:\nLead by example as a hands-on quality engineering practitioner, contributing to all aspects of software testing.\nDesign and execute test scenarios, scripts, and test data requirements, including working with external and third-party systems.\nShape and implement effective test automation strategies using industry best practices.\nDevelop automated tests using technologies such as Java, Scala, .NET, or JavaScript, and advocate for approaches including TDD and BDD.\nCollaborate with stakeholders, architects, developers, and product teams to influence solution design and delivery planning.\nMentor and support junior engineers, promoting technical excellence, wellbeing, and professional development.\nAs a Lead Quality Engineer, you will additionally:\nProvide technical leadership across quality engineering activities, ensuring successful delivery of high-quality solutions.\nDefine and drive quality engineering strategy, standards, and best practices across projects and programmes.\nChampion innovation by identifying and implementing modern testing approaches, tools, and engineering solutions.\nLead collaboration across multiple teams and disciplines to enable seamless integration and delivery.\nAct as a senior mentor and role model, developing engineering capability and fostering a culture of continuous learning.\nSupport the technical and career development of engineers through coaching, performance management, and leadership.\nOur culture\nWe’re looking for people who are learning focused, challenge the status quo and are constantly looking to shape their working environment to make it an exciting, fun and interesting place to work.\nKeeping things fresh is something we encourage in our working practices, but the culture of continuous improvement is equally as important in our technical approach to building and delivering modern digital services. The engineering organisation is engineering led, supporting each other through coaching and mentoring, so if you want to change something it’s within your power to do so.\nYour skills and experience\nWe are looking for someone with a strong understanding of the QA process, knowledge in defining, implementing test designs and broad experience across test levels.\nHands-on experience using and maintaining automated test frameworks (e.g, Cucumber, JUnit)\nKnowledge of stubbing / mocking frameworks such as Wiremock\nUnderstanding of Non-Functional testing such as Performance, Security or Accessibility testing\nExperience / Understanding of Git or other version control systems\nStrong experience of iterative / incremental software delivery\nHands on experience of all levels of the test automation pyramid\nExperienced in API testing and tools\nExperienced in Functional or System Testing\nExperience using project management tooling (e.g. JIRA)\nGood knowledge of Agile methodologies\nExcellent written and oral communication skills, strong problem-solving & collaborative skills\nProactive, looks for areas of improvement\nAdditional competencies for Lead Engineer:\nAdvanced Technical Skills: Strong understanding of the QA process, knowledge in defining, implementing test designs and broad experience across test levels, with a deep understanding of engineering principles and best practice.
