This role requires being comfortable managing multiple workstreams and working across different products, user groups, and problem areas as priorities shift.\nThis is a hands-on, individual contributor role. On any given week you might be planning a discovery study, running usability tests, designing screens in Figma, or presenting findings to various stakeholders. We are looking for someone who can work across the full design process, from understanding the problem to shipping the solution.\nResponsibilities\nUser Research & Discovery\nPlan and conduct discovery research to understand user needs, behaviours, and pain points faced by public officers across agencies.\nDesign and run usability testing sessions to validate concepts and iterate on designs.\nPlan and facilitate surveys, workshops, and other participatory research methods to gather insights at scale.\nSynthesise research findings into actionable insights and communicate them clearly to product and engineering teams.\nUX & UI Design\nDesign end-to-end user experiences, covering information architecture, user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity UI.\nDesign interactions that are intuitive, accessible, and aligned with both user needs and business objectives.\nContribute to and maintain design systems, ensuring consistency across products.\nBalance user needs, technical constraints, and policy requirements when making design decisions.\nStakeholder Communication & Collaboration\nPresent design work and research findings to a range of stakeholders, including product managers, engineers, and senior government leaders.\nTranslate complex requirements and feedback into a clear design direction.\nWork closely with product and engineering teams to ensure designs are feasible and well-implemented.\nPrototyping\nBuild interactive prototypes to communicate design intent, using Figma prototypes.\nEffective use of components and design system libraries within prototypes to ensure consistency and efficiency.\nRequirements\n3 to 5 years of product design experience with a portfolio that demonstrates strong user research skills alongside polished UX and UI work.\nResearch expertise. You know how to plan studies, choose the right methods, facilitate sessions, and turn findings into design decisions.\nStrong UI and interaction design skills. You can take a concept from rough wireframes through to pixel-level, production-ready designs.\nComfort with ambiguity and context switching. You can move between different products and problem spaces, and ramp up quickly.\nClear communication skills. You can articulate design rationale to technical and non-technical audiences, and hold your own in conversations with senior stakeholders.\nUser-centric mindset with pragmatism.
