Join us in powering North America!\nYour Opportunity\nOne Temporary Full-Time Position Commencing May 2027\nAs an Engineering Summer Student in the High Voltage and Electrical (HV&E) team, you will be part of a group accountable for providing technical oversight of Capital Power's electrical assets across the fleet. The HV&E team serves as steward of critical electrical equipment, identifying, tracking, and escalating issues to support the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of our generation facilities.\nReporting to the Senior SME, HV&E, you will provide engineering and technical support to a wide range of electrical equipment and initiatives while gaining exposure to power generation assets across Capital Power's North American fleet.\nWhat You’ll Do:\nAssist in the evaluation and assessment of critical electrical equipment, including generators, transformers, breakers, and associated systems, and help determine repair priorities and mitigation strategies.\nManage and update Transformer Oil Analysis (TOA) results and support the review of test results, recommendations, and follow-up actions.\nMaintain and update the fleet generator Technical Information Letter (TIL) database.\nDevelop power system models and perform power system studies, including arc flash, coordination, short circuit, and power flow analysis using industry-standard simulation software.\nDevelop and enhance PI screens and dashboards to support monitoring and analysis of real-time and historical operational data.\nReview and support the development of engineering standards, technical guidelines, maintenance practices, and operating procedures.\nCollaborate with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to support fleet-wide reliability and performance improvement initiatives.\nAssist with technical investigations, root cause analyses, and engineering projects as required.\nWhat You'll Bring:\nEducation\nCurrently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.\nExperience & Skills\nCoursework in power systems, electrical machines, protection and control, or high-voltage equipment is considered an asset.\nFamiliarity with power system analysis software, programming, or data visualization tools is beneficial.\nStrong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.\nAbility to interpret technical information and communicate findings effectively.\nStrong attention to detail and a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.\nDemonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.\nProficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, is preferred.\nWhat You'll Gain:\nHands-on experience supporting the operation and reliability of utility-scale power generation assets.\nExposure to a diverse fleet of electrical systems and equipment across multiple generating facilities.\nOpportunities to apply engineering concepts to real-world technical challenges.\nExperience working alongside subject matter experts and professional engineers.\nDevelopment of technical, analytical, and project management skills in a collaborative environment.\nInsight into how engineering, maintenance, and operations teams work together to deliver safe and reliable power generation.\nValuable industry experience within a leading North American power producer.\nAdditional Details:\nThis position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.\nIn order to be considered for this role you must be legally eligible to work in Canada.\nThe successful candidate for this position will undergo an education verification, reference checks and criminal record check.\nHow To Apply and Next Steps\nCapital Power only accepts resumes via online application atwww.capitalpower.com/careers.
