Capstan is bringing a first-of-its-kind surgical robot to\npatients, and the way to build and test it at scale doesn't exist yet - you'll help invent it. This isn't\nmaintaining tests for a mature product on a settled line. You'll join a newly formed team that works\nalongside R&D while the design is still evolving, defining from first principles how we prove a novel\nrobot is ready for the patient, every single time.\nIn this role, you'll own the software and test systems that make that proof possible - from\nsubassemblies through full system integration. Working at the interface of hardware and software,\nyou'll partner with R&D to turn evolving design requirements into robust, validated manufacturing tests.\nYou'll architect and develop the hardware-in-the-loop systems that automate how we test, bring up the\nfixtures that run them, and make sure every test software change reaches the production line cleanly.\nYou'll thrive here if you love getting your hands on real hardware, debugging across mechanical,\nelectrical, and software boundaries, and letting data drive your decisions.\nKey Responsibilities:\nDefine, from first principles, how a first-of-its-kind surgical robot is tested in production - there\nis no industry template to copy, so you'll shape the test strategy, architecture, and standards the\nteam builds on\nDevelop manufacturing tests for robotic subassemblies and systems, working closely with R&D\nfrom early development through design transfer\nOwn and maintain deployed manufacturing tests, including updates, bug fixes, and support on\nthe production line\nDerive manufacturing software test requirements from higher-level product and design\nrequirements provided by R&D, with traceability between them\nLead verification and validation of manufacturing test software, including protocols, execution,\nand reports\nDesign and develop hardware-in-the-loop test systems to automate software and hardware\ntesting\nDevelop test methods at the hardware/software interface, such as brake calibration, encoder\nand brake health checks, and motion and sensor characterization\nImplement tools to retrieve and analyze device and controller data (eg. logs and diagnostics\nover EtherCAT)\nSupport bring-up, debug, and commissioning of manufacturing test fixtures and equipment\nDeliver manufacturing test readiness on schedule for planned development, verification, and\nclinical builds\nManage test software releases so that updates are versioned, verified before reaching the line,\nand rolled out without disrupting production\nAnalyze test data using scripting tools (eg. Python) to identify trends, anomalies, and yield\ndrivers\nInfluence firmware/software teams to implement diagnostic hooks and manufacturing-friendly\nfeatures\nDocument and communicate work through design reviews and released documents as part of\nthe product development process\nIdentify gaps and pitch in as needed to ensure the team meets its goals and objectives\nMentor junior engineers and technicians in test development, debugging, and best practices\nWhat you'll need:\nBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics,\nComputer Science, or related field\nMinimum 5 years of relevant industry experience, medical device or similar safety critical system\nexperience preferred (higher degree can offset years of experience)\nExperience with Python and C++\nProficiency with software development practices: version control (Git), code reviews, and\nrelease management\nProven experience working at the hardware/software interface - motors, encoders, brakes,\nsensors, and motion control\nExperience designing and building hardware-in-the-loop or automated test systems\nExperience with industrial communication protocols (eg. EtherCAT, CAN, serial) and lab\ninstrumentation (DAQs, power supplies, oscilloscopes)\nHands-on debugging of integrated electro-mechanical systems using schematics, logs, and\ninstrumentation\nExperience deriving test requirements and writing and executing test protocols and reports\nFamiliarity with Linux and robotics software frameworks (eg. ROS) preferred\nFamiliarity with medical device regulations and software validation (eg. ISO 13485, IEC 62304, 21\nCFR 820) preferred\nExcellent communication and documentation skills\nComfortable working cross-functionally with R&D, Quality, and Production teams\nHands-on, detail-oriented, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment\nEagerness to learn and push the envelope to bring a novel surgical robotic platform to market","description_format":"text","description_chars":4562,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":5,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Medical & Healthcare Robotics","Medical AI"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-29T07:49:24Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":50,"band":"ok","label":"Likely open","p_open":1,"p_active":0.555,"p_room":0.9,"age_days":13,"expected_fill_days":22,"reasons":["conf:3","stale_co","win:mid"],"computed_at":"2026-10-12T06:55:09Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/capstan-medical-sr-manufacturing-software-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/capstan-medical-sr-manufacturing-software-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-12T11:31:13Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":17873,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-13T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":176338},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=176338"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fcapstan-medical-sr-manufacturing-software-engineer"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fcapstan-medical-sr-manufacturing-software-engineer"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fcapstan-medical-sr-manufacturing-software-engineer"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/capstan-medical-sr-manufacturing-software-engineer\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fcapstan-medical-sr-manufacturing-software-engineer"}]}
