We work in a dynamic environment and thrive on tackling rewarding and complex problems as a team.\nPosition Scope\nThe Mechanical Engineering Co-op is responsible for providing mechanical engineering support at Carbon Engineering’s Squamish facilities; working closely with the operations, major projects, and technology development teams. Example work includes piping design, material selection, insulation specification, support/frame design, and drawing development. The student will be exposed to software tools such as MathCAD, Python and Autodesk Inventor as well as industry specific design software.\nThis position is an 8 month or longer co-op term. Start dates are flexible. \nThis position is on-site and based in Squamish, BC.\nThe work schedule follows a M-F, 40hrs/week schedule.\nRelocation support is provided, including first 4 weeks company paid accommodation\nThis position pays $22-26/hour. \nExpected start date is September 2026.\nHealth, Safety and Environment:\nDemonstrate a positive safety culture. \nIdentify, report and resolve unsafe conditions, processes or actions within the workplace. \nEnsure that all safety related incidents, accidents and near misses are reported and investigated in line with company policy. \nKey Responsibilities:\nMechanical Engineering \nSupport small projects on site by providing engineering judgments and calculations on proposed solutions through the Management of Change process. \nHeat transfer (insulation), hydraulic, and stress/structural calculations are key. The co-op student will learn how to complete these to a level where sound engineering judgments can be made based on their results. \nParts selection and ordering, producing drawings and bills of materials for small and medium-sized equipment designs. \nTroubleshooting and problem-solving on both plant and laboratory equipment and processes. \nFitness-for-Service analysis of worn and/or damaged process equipment. \nHand assembly, prototyping. \nReview of designs for code compliance. Reading and interpretation of ASME, ANSI, CSA and other codes and standards. \n Specification Development \nSupport the development of specifications for, for example, piping, coatings, insulation, structures, etc. \nSupport the review of vendor proposals and documents to ensure conformance with CE specifications. \nSupport the assembly of specification packages for RFP documents. \nSupport specification deviations; conducting research on implications, preparation of spec. deviation memos (stamped by the Engineer of Record). \n Engineering Document Review and Approval \nEngineering documents - Support the updating and accuracy of our engineering drawings. \nChecking/review - participate in review cycles for externally produced documents. \nDocument Control - Assist in the identification and retention of controlled documents for the deployment of new EDMS software. \nEducation\nCurrently enrolled in Canadian post secondary institute (3rd, or 4th year) \nPreference to candidates in a relevant BEng / BASc program (Mechanical) \nKey Competencies\nMotivated curiosity, mechanical aptitude are a must. \nKeen interest in piping design and material science. \nExperience with Excel, Python, MathCAD and/or Autodesk Inventor or other 3D design tools a plus. \nExperience with ASME B31.3, CSA 149.1,.2 & .3, National Building Code or other relevant industry codes and standards are a plus. \nAbility to work in all weather conditions and noisy work environment. \nSafe handling of chemical products is required. \nJoining Carbon Engineering provides you more than a career - it’s a calling for those who are ready to make a difference in climate action.
