We use SQL databases and message queues to manage images and deliver results directly to customer systems.\nYou will help ensure the smooth flow of images across our platform, operate reliable containerized Linux services, and monitor and improve our AWS infrastructure. You will also contribute to our engineering practices, including source code management, automated testing, documentation, and CI/CD.\nThis role also offers the opportunity to help define the next generation of software development at CarCutter. We are introducing AI coding agents and agentic workflows across the software development lifecycle, from requirements analysis and technical specifications to implementation, testing, code review, documentation, incident investigation, and operational improvements.\nWe are looking for someone who is curious about these new ways of working, while applying strong technical judgment and taking full ownership of the resulting software.\nWhat you’ll do\nDesign, develop, and maintain backend services in Python.\n\nBuild flexible and reliable solutions that meet customer and product requirements.\n\nImprove and operate our AWS cloud infrastructure.\n\nSupport the transition from our legacy monolith to a more modular and scalable architecture.\n\nImprove automated testing, including unit and end-to-end testing.\n\nDevelop and maintain APIs, database integrations, message queues, and image-processing workflows.\n\nApply DevOps practices to make computer vision capabilities reliably available to all customers.\n\nMonitor systems, investigate incidents, and continuously improve platform reliability and performance.\n\nContribute to architecture, security, documentation, CI/CD, and engineering standards.\n\nCollaborate with application, frontend, cloud, data, and AI teams across the organization.\n\nUse AI coding agents and agentic workflows where they improve engineering outcomes, including implementation, refactoring, test creation, research, documentation, and incident response.\n\nHelp define how agent-assisted work should be reviewed, tested, secured, monitored, and deployed safely.\n\nEvaluate new agentic practices and turn successful approaches into repeatable workflows.\n\nShare knowledge and contribute to a collaborative, high-quality engineering culture.\n\nWhat we’re looking for\nAt least five years of experience in backend software development.\n\nStrong expertise in Python.\n\nHands-on experience with Linux, including system administration and networking fundamentals.\n\nExperience working with SQL databases and queue-based processing.\n\nA solid understanding of software architecture, APIs and protocols, containers, security, and distributed systems.\n\nExperience with software development best practices, including TDD, BDD, automated testing, documentation, and CI/CD.\n\nExperience developing, operating, and monitoring cloud-based solutions, preferably on AWS.\n\nStrong source code management practices, preferably with Git.\n\nA proactive and pragmatic approach to problem-solving.\n\nA strong sense of ownership and attention to quality.\n\nThe ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional team.\n\nProfessional working proficiency in English.\n\nAI-assisted development\nExperience using AI-assisted development tools or coding agents in real engineering work, or a strong interest in adopting them thoughtfully.\n\nThe ability to critically assess AI-generated code and recommendations, including their correctness, maintainability, security, performance, and operational impact.\n\nAn interest in improving not only software, but also the workflows used to specify, develop, review, and operate it.\n\nNice to have\nExperience with Terraform.\n\nExperience with AWS services such as API Gateway, Lambda, ECS and RDS.\n\nExperience operating image-processing or data-intensive systems.\n\nWhy join CarCutter?\nWork on the core of the platform\nYou will work on the systems that power the entire CarCutter product.
