The intern will contribute to the development of clinical tests that inform diagnosis and treatment for transplant patients, applying and developing bioinformatics and statistical methods to analyze next-generation sequencing (NGS) and omics datasets.\nResponsibilities: \nCollaborate with scientists and research associates throughout R&D, including experimental design, data analysis, interpretation, and troubleshooting.\nWork closely with laboratory teams to address scientific questions using bioinformatics methods and tools.\nDesign, develop, and run computational pipelines for NGS and genomic data analysis.\nEvaluate the performance of emerging technology platforms and assays.\nMaintain clear, detailed documentation of analyses, methods, and results.\nPresent findings and progress updates at team meetings and to scientific collaborators.\nExpand computational biology and programming skills through project work, seminars, and training.\nApply AI-enabled research and structured problem framing to identify and prioritize high-value data opportunities across solid organ transplant and cell therapy and transplant programs.\nEvaluate strategic opportunities for new or enhanced data products, biopharma collaborations, and real-world evidence generation by assessing unmet need, data feasibility, clinical and business value, and execution risk.\nSynthesize internal and external evidence into concise recommendations, decision frameworks, and pilot proposals for scientific, product, medical, and business stakeholders.\nWhat You’ll Gain:\nHands-on experience analyzing NGS and omics data to support clinical test development for transplant patients.\nPractical skills in computational pipeline development, experimental design, assay evaluation, and scientific troubleshooting.\nMentorship from experienced bioinformaticians and data scientists, with opportunities to collaborate across computational and laboratory teams.\nExperience communicating scientific findings and documenting reproducible analyses.\nInsight into how genomic technologies and data analysis translate into diagnostic tools that inform patient care.\nExperience using AI as a research and decision-support tool to frame ambiguous healthcare data problems and prioritize opportunities.\nExposure to product strategy, real-world evidence, and biopharma partnership questions in transplant diagnostics and cell therapy.\nMinimum Education, Experience, & Specialized Knowledge (Required):\nBachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Data Science, Biostatistics, Biomedical Informatics, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Life Sciences, Physics, or a related field.\nKnowledge of bioinformatics and computational genomics.\nProficiency in Python, R, or another relevant programming language.\nExperience analyzing NGS data, such as targeted sequencing, whole-genome or whole-exome sequencing, or RNA-seq.\nFamiliarity with Linux environments, scripting, and version control tools such as Git.\nStrong interpersonal and communication skills.\nExperience with cloud computing and database management is a plus.\nDemonstrated ability to use AI tools and independent research to structure open-ended problems, test assumptions, and develop evidence-based recommendations.\nEntrepreneurial mindset and experience evaluating biotechnology, healthcare, or life-science opportunities; prior venture, strategy, product, or company-building experience is a plus.\nDuration: 10-12 Weeks, 40 hours per week\nCompensation $40/hour\nAdditional Details: \nEvery individual at CareDx has a direct impact on our collective mission to improve the lives of organ transplant patients worldwide.
