CareDx offers products, testing services, and digital healthcare solutions along the pre- and post-transplant patient journey, and is the leading provider of genomics-based information for transplant patients.\n**Ideal candidate will commute to the Brisbane, CA location**\nWe are looking for a Staff Software Engineer with deep expertise in Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) to design, configure, and scale software solutions that support complex laboratory workflows. This role is ideal for someone who has worked hands-on with LIMS platforms such as Labbit, LabAdvantage, or similar systems, and who understands the nuances of clinical, molecular, and diagnostic lab operations.\nYou will partner closely with laboratory stakeholders, product managers, and cross-functional engineering teams to translate real-world lab processes into reliable, compliant, and scalable software solutions.\nKey Responsibilities\nLead the design, configuration, and customization of LIMS systems to support end-to-end laboratory workflows (sample accessioning, testing, results, reporting, QC, and data integration).\nServe as a technical subject matter expert for LIMS workflows, lab operations, and healthcare terminology.\nWork directly with laboratory users to gather requirements, map workflows, and implement system configurations that improve efficiency and data quality.\nBuild and maintain custom extensions, integrations, and automation around LIMS platforms using modern software engineering practices.\nIntegrate LIMS with upstream and downstream systems (instruments, ELNs, EMRs/EHRs, data warehouses, APIs).\nEnsure systems meet regulatory and compliance requirements (e.g., CLIA, CAP, HIPAA, 21 CFR Part 11 where applicable).\nReview and improve existing LIMS configurations to support scalability, performance, and maintainability.\nMentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across LIMS-related initiatives.\nCollaborate with QA, DevOps, and product teams to support testing, validation, deployment, and ongoing support.\nRequired Qualifications\nEducation: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)\nExperience: 8 to 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant hands-on work in LIMS environments.\nExtensive experience configuring and customizing LIMS platforms such as Labbit, LabAdvantage, or comparable systems.\nStrong understanding of laboratory workflows, including sample lifecycle management, testing processes, and results management.\nDeep familiarity with healthcare and laboratory terminology, data standards, and operational constraints.\nExperience building integrations and APIs (REST, HL7, FHIR, or proprietary lab/instrument interfaces).\nProficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Java, C#, Python, JavaScript).\nStrong SQL and data modeling skills, particularly for complex scientific or clinical datasets.\nAbility to translate lab requirements into technical designs and system configurations.\nExcellent communication skills and comfort working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.\nPreferred Qualifications\nPrior experience in clinical diagnostics, molecular labs, or reference laboratories.\nExperience with instrument interfacing and automation.\nFamiliarity with validation documentation and regulated software development.\nExperience working in agile development environments.\nExposure to cloud-based LIMS or SaaS laboratory platforms.\nWhat Success Looks Like\nLaboratory teams trust you as a go-to technical partner who understands how the lab really works.\nLIMS workflows are streamlined, reliable, and scalable.\nIntegrations “just work,” reducing manual effort and errors.\nThe system supports compliance without slowing down innovation.\nAdditional Details: \nEvery individual at CareDx has a direct impact on our collective mission to improve the lives of organ transplant patients worldwide.
