There are occasional exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution.\nThis is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier 1 Level.\nMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS\nEDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS\nRequires a high school degree or a GED certificate. Requires successful completion of an apprentice electrician program approved by the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training or the equivalent as recognized by the Electrical Safety and Licensing Advisory Board.\nEXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS\nSix (6) years of journey-level experience in the area of work to be performed, either as an inside electrician or outside lineman, are required.\nSubstitution: A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering may be substituted for two years of the experience requirement.\nLICENSE REQUIREMENTS\nA valid State of Texas Journeyman Electrician License is required. \nMust have a valid Texas driver’s license and comply with the City of Houston’s policy on driving. \nPREFERENCES\nPreference will be given to applicants with experience in maintaining medium/low voltage systems and knowledge of electrical controls. \nPreference will be given to applicants with prior experience in obtaining budgetary quotes, supervision of electrical personnel, and scheduling vendor activities.\n**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.** \nGENERAL INFORMATION\nSELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED: None \nHowever, the department may administer a skills assessment test.\nSAFETY IMPACT POSITION: Yes \nThis position is subject to random drug testing and if a promotional position, candidate must pass an assignment drug test.\nSALARY INFORMATION\nFactors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.\nPAY GRADE 25\nAPPLICATION PROCEDURES\nOnly online applications will be accepted for this City of Houston job and must be received by the Human Resources Department during active posting period.
