Job Description

Job Summary

The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office is operating a Re-Entry program to assist individuals with a healthy transition back into the community upon release from jail. With this program the Sheriff's Office is looking to fill an Inmate Release Coordinator position located at the Adult Detention Center. This position will interact with the public through networking, attending meetings, and occasional public speaking.

Starting rate of pay --> $23.26

Monday through Friday - 8:00am to 5:00pm

Occasional travel for training and transporting individuals to treatment. A re-entry vehicle will be provided.

Must pass drug screen post offer.

Must pass a polygraph.

Must possess a valid driver's license for operation of motor vehicles on Arizona roads at the start of employment and maintain said license while employed in this position.

Must provide acceptable driving history at no cost to the County.

Essential Job Functions

  • Establishes work procedures and priorities.
  • Advocates for inmates regarding substance abuse and/or mental health issues.
  • Establishes and maintains standards, procedures, and techniques for efficiency of work.
  • Reviews all inmate admissions to identify possible disorders.
  • Works cooperatively with inmates and practitioners to identify treatment options.
  • Once identified, individually screens those inmates for service linkage outside the facility.
  • Service linkage will consist of care coordination, access to medication, and access to benefits (AHCCS), peer support, and transitional housing.
  • Researches and remains up to date with state directives and statues applicable to the assigned department /division using appropriate resources.
  • Partners with community health providers through participation in coalitions; advocates for the development of networks that assists and furthers linking services to inmates incarcerated who are suffering from substance abuse and or mental health disorders.
  • Compose letters, routine correspondence and all documents in following up previous work, responding to inquiries, obtaining and updating information and making notifications.
  • Coordinates meetings and takes minutes.
  • Establishes and maintains filing, indexing and cross-referencing systems.
  • Review incoming and outgoing computer data for accuracy, completeness and quality.
  • Designs and creates documents, brochures and/or newsletters in the course of business using a variety of computer software including Excel, Microsoft Word, Power Point, etc.
  • Verifies and checks work for completeness and accuracy, and resolves errors and omissions.
  • Enters and/or records data in appropriate systems. Compiles and computes data from files and other sources in preparing reports.
  • Gathers and prepares material for special reports, forms, policy formulation and summaries at the request of superiors.
  • Performs assigned research for the delegated area.
  • Operates common office machines to include computer keyboards and related peripheral equipment.
  • Communicates and acts in a professional manner with the public, co-workers, and work contacts.
  • Interfaces and coordinates with Detention personnel regarding any coordinated release efforts.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED (General Education Degree).
  • Minimum of Three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative support experience with which;
  • Two (2) years of experience in a setting dealing with substance abuse or mental health issues, preferably in a detention or correctional environment.
  • OR an acceptable combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities and training may be considered in meeting the minimum requirements.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • The procedures, terminology and accepted or common practices, and policies of the assigned specialized work and the department/area to which assigned.
  • Goals relating to Service Linkage for inmates suffering from substance abuse and/or mental health disorders.
  • English grammar, spelling, and arithmetic.
  • Standard office practices, procedures and equipment.
  • Filing and information systems.
  • Computing literacy to include use of electronic spreadsheet and word processing applications.
  • Confinement environment.
  • Department policies, rules and procedures.
  • Mohave County Personnel Policies and Procedures, and Department Regulations.
  • Efficiently operating and utilizing modern office machines as necessary to include typewriters, fax transmittal machines, calculators, and the use of computer keyboards and related software and peripheral equipment.
  • Communicating and maintaining professionalism with the public, co-workers, and work contacts.
  • Maintain and establish filing systems.
  • Use good judgment to solve work problems through established guidelines.
  • Interpret technical and departmental information encountered in the performance of responsibilities.
  • Maintains public trust by honoring inmate confidentiality as it pertains to treatment.
  • Work independently in completing assigned tasks accurately and in maintaining standard correspondence, files, and reports of the office.
  • Work and communicate effectively with all people contacted in the work.
  • Interact with inmates suffering from disorders that are personal or sensitive in nature.
  • Understand and carry out moderately complex written and oral instructions.
  • Type accurately and at a speed necessary to fulfill job responsibilities.
