This role is responsible for driving process optimization, business analysis, automation, and technology innovation across Accounting Operations and enterprise partnerships. The position collaborates with cross-functional teams to design and implement scalable solutions leveraging advanced analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), robotic process automation (RPA), and modern data technologies. Successful candidates will combine strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving capabilities with accounting expertise to transform the business through innovation and data-driven decision making.\nWhat you will do - Essential Responsibilities\nReview, analyze, and optimize accounting operations processes, identifying opportunities for automation, efficiency gains, risk reduction, and improved controls.\nDesign, develop, and support AI-enabled, RPA, and workflow automation solutions that improve operational effectiveness and associate productivity.\nUtilize tools such as Copilot, Claude, Alteryx, Python, SQL, Power Platform, and other analytics technologies to acquire, transform, automate, and analyze complex business data.\nDevelop advanced analytics, dashboards, and reporting solutions that provide actionable insights to Accounting Operations leadership and business partners.\nServe as a subject matter expert for process improvement, automation, data governance, and emerging technologies.\nLead and participate in strategic projects focused on operational transformation, digital enablement, and continuous improvement initiatives.\nPartner with Accounting, Finance, Technology, Compliance, and other business teams to define requirements and deliver technology-driven solutions.\nEvaluate emerging AI, machine learning, and intelligent automation capabilities to identify opportunities that support business objectives.\nDocument business processes, automation solutions, and technical requirements to ensure scalability, sustainability, and appropriate controls.\nChallenge the status quo by identifying innovative approaches that improve customer experience, operational efficiency, and business outcomes.\nPerform root cause analyses and provide data-driven recommendations to address business challenges and improve performance.\nSupport enterprise initiatives through analytical expertise, automation design, testing, implementation, and change adoption activities.\nQualifications and Requirements\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions.\nAbility to translate business requirements into analytical, automation, and technology solutions.\nStrong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.\nDemonstrated passion for innovation, automation, process improvement, and emerging technologies.\nAbility to manage multiple priorities and execute effectively in a fast-paced environment.\nExperience collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to achieve common business objectives.\nKnowledge of data management, process mapping, workflow design, and operational controls.\nAbility to independently lead workstreams and influence outcomes across teams and organizational levels.\nCuriosity and willingness to continuously learn new technologies, tools, and analytical techniques, particularly in AI and intelligent automation.\nWork Location and Arrangement: This role will be based out of the CarMax Home Office in Richmond, VAand Associates will work onsite 4 days per week.\nWork Authorization: Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Sponsorship will not be considered for this specific role.\nEducation and/or Experience\nBachelor's Degree preferred or equivalent experience\n5+ years of accounting, finance, business operations, analytics, automation, or related experience required, including knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).\n3+ years of experience in business analytics, process improvement, data engineering, automation, or operational excellence preferred.\nDemonstrated experience developing solutions using Alteryx, RPA, Python, Power Platform or similar analytics platforms preferred.\nExperience utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Machine Learning technologies to improve business processes or decision-making strongly preferred.\nAdvanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) required.\nData analytics experience and proficiency managing data with SQL required.\nTableau or Power BI experience preferred.\nExperience working with cloud-based analytics platforms and modern data architectures preferred.\nExperience building automated workflows, bots, predictive models, or intelligent process automation solutions highly desirable.\nThe annual salary for this position is:\n$104,200.00 - $166,700.00May be eligible for bonus and equity.\nBenefits:\nExcept as otherwise required by state law, CarMax Associates are entitled to the following paid sick, vacation, and holiday time.\nAssociates that are considered full-time hourly or commission/incentive eligible:\nTo earn up to 48 hours of sick time per year accrued on a per pay period basis and between 80 hours and 200 hours per year of vacation time after a 90 day waiting period depending on years of continuous service with the Company. \nFor 8 hours of pay for each of a total of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday.
