This role serves as a Tax Subject Matter Expert (SME), analyzing current and future business processes to identify tax risks, influence strategic decisions, and implement best-in-class solutions. You will design new processes, manage change, and collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure compliance and operational excellence.\nWork Location and Arrangement: This role will be based out of the CarMax Home Office in Richmond, VA and Associates will work onsite 4 days per week.\nWork Authorization: Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. As a leader, you will guide strategic initiatives, manage project execution, and advocate for tax improvements across the organization.\nRole Responsibilities\nServe as Tax SME on strategic initiatives, ensuring tax laws and compliance requirements are addressed.\nDevelop and execute project plans, including risk mitigation, communication strategies, and documentation.\nCollaborate with cross-functional teams to remove obstacles and support day-to-day project operations.\nLead testing efforts, defining test plans, analyzing results, and coordinating remediation of defects.\nMaintain strong relationships with business partners, aligning tax project plans with company objectives.\nAdvocate for tax initiatives, gaining buy-in from leadership and stakeholders through clear communication.\nManage audits effectively, defending CarMax’s tax positions and ensuring full compliance.\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.\n7+ years of sales tax experience in public accounting or corporate tax departments.\nProven expertise in process improvement, project management, and change management.\nDemonstrated leadership experience, including associate development and team management.\nProficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Access.\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience with Alteryx.\nAbout CarMax\nAt CarMax, we revolutionized the used car buying experience over 30 years ago by introducing transparency and integrity into the process.
