You will have a direct impact on improving the performance of our business and ensuring customers can buy the vehicles they want in a way that is right for them!\nWhat you will do - Essential Responsibilities\nDesign and build web applications that support customer service and collections associates in a high-volume call center environment.\nDevelop responsive, intuitive user interfaces and middle-layer services that integrate with enterprise systems, including CarMax Auto Finance’s loan accounting platform (Alfa).\nWork closely with business stakeholders, operations teams, and technology partners to translate servicing and collections processes into effective tools and workflows.\nBuild and maintain APIs and integration services that connect the web application to backend systems and third-party services.\nSupport the full software lifecycle, including design, development, testing, implementation, and production support.\nContinuously improve application performance, usability, and reliability to support associates who rely on these tools every day.\nPurpose of the role\nIt takes a passion for technology and problem-solving to build applications that make a real difference in how associates serve customers. In this role, you will work collaboratively with business and technology partners to design and deliver web applications and integration services that support customer service and collections operations. You are curious, analytical, and continuously learning, and you thrive in an environment where technology, business needs, and customer expectations continue to evolve.\nQualifications and Requirements\nBasic Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).\n5+ years of professional experience building full-stack web applications, including modern front-end UIs and middle-tier / API services.\nProficiency with:Angular 17+ (with Angular Material) for responsive, component-based UIs\nC# and .NET 8+ for backend services and BFF patterns\nYARP for API routing and reverse-proxy integration\nSSO Auth + mTLS for secure inter-service communication\n\nExperience designing, building, and consuming RESTful APIs that integrate with enterprise systems.\nWorking knowledge of relational databases (Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, or similar) - ability to write and optimize basic SQL queries and understand relational data models.\nStrong understanding of secure coding practices, authentication/authorization, encryption, and handling sensitive data (PII).\nExperience writing unit and integration tests (Spectator + Jasmine and Playwright preferred) and working with Git / GitHub for version control and reusable libraries.\nComfort working in Microsoft Azure environments and a willingness to adopt AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot and OpenCode) to accelerate delivery.\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience building internal operational or workflow applications (customer service, servicing, collections, or similar business-critical tools).\nIntegration experience with financial systems, accounting platforms, or other enterprise systems.\nFamiliarity with microservices, service-oriented architecture, or distributed systems.\nAgile development experience and comfort working directly with business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.\nKnowledge of CI/CD pipelines, build automation, release management, and IIS configuration.\nExperience with automated performance testing or working in regulated data environments.\nSoftware Specific Qualifications and Requirements\nProficiency in C# and the .NET / .NET Core framework for building web applications and backend services.\nExperience developing responsive web front-end applications using HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., Angular).\nExperience implementing server-side logic, business services, and API integrations (REST required, SOAP a plus).\nExperience working with data storage solutions including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Azure data services, or Snowflake.\nUnderstanding of authentication, authorization, encryption, and secure handling of sensitive data (PII).\nExperience developing reusable code and shared libraries and using version control systems (Git, GitHub, NuGet).\nExperience writing unit tests and integration tests to ensure application reliability and maintainability.\nExperience deploying and supporting applications in Microsoft Azure environments.\nExperience in the following preferred:\nAdvanced SQL development, including stored procedures, scripting, and data modeling in Microsoft SQL Server.\nExperience with automated testing and performance testing.\nExperience working in distributed or service-oriented architectures.\nExperience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines (e.g., TeamCity or similar tools).\nExperience configuring and supporting web applications in IIS.\nExperience with build automation, environment configuration, and release management.\nExperience developing internal operational systems such as customer service, servicing, collections, or workflow applications.\nExperience working with financial systems or regulated data environments.\nWork Location and Arrangement: This role will be based out of the Richmond VA Corporate Office and have a Hybrid work arrangement. \nAssociates based in Richmond work on-site 4 days per week.\nWork Authorization: Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.\nAbout CarMax\nCarMax disrupted the auto industry by delivering the honest, transparent and high-integrity experience customers want and deserve.
