Building on its history of innovation, Carpenter’s wrought and powder technology capabilities support a range of next-generation products and manufacturing techniques, including novel magnetic materials and additive manufacturing.\nPrincipal Purpose of Position:\nCustomer Quality Engineer Responsibilities:Maintain strong customer relationships by independently representing the organization in customer meetings and effectively utilizing customer portals to obtain and share quality-related information.\nDrive improvements in customer satisfaction by proactively reducing quality claims, remakes, scrap, and deviations from standard work.\nInterpret, clarify, and communicate customer requirements from Purchase Orders, technical specifications, and related documentation, ensuring proper flow-down to internal stakeholders.\nReview and disposition change requests that may impact customers.\nActively participate in and support Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities, contributing technical expertise and ensuring alignment with customer and AS9100 requirements.\nPrepare, maintain, and submit customer-required quality documentation, including Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Validated Assessment Process (VAP), Control Plans, Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ), and Performance Qualification (PQ) documents.\nDevelop and maintain Control Plans and Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (FMEA), establishing Critical to Quality (CTQ), Key Characteristics (KCs), including Product and Process Characteristics.\nPerform and document First Article Inspections (FAIs) in accordance with AS9102 and customer-specific requirements, ensuring accuracy and completeness.\nLead 8D root-cause investigations of moderate to high complexity, providing professional communication of findings and corrective actions to customers and ensuring timely closure.\nImprove and stabilize manufacturing processes by implementing process controls (SPC), assessing process capability, and applying appropriate statistical methods.\nDemonstrate advanced proficiency in inspection, measurement, and sampling methodologies, and lead Measurement System Analysis (MSA) improvements across assigned processes.\nMaintain qualifications and meet customer-specific Supplier Quality Representative (SQR) requirements when applicable.\nDevelop and deliver training on customer-specific quality requirements to internal teams, ensuring proper understanding and compliance.\nCollaborate with Quality Systems to ensure customer requirements are fully integrated into internal processes and procedures.\nProvide guidance in developing customer-focused product audit plans.\nFacilitate and participate in customer audits and external/3rd-party audits/assessments as required.\nServe as a member of the internal audit team to support system compliance and continuous improvement.\nMaintain a central Quality records database and ensures integrity of the data and data accessibility.\nProactively improve process and product quality at Carpenter. Work with a “continuous improvement” mindset within the framework of outlined methods in the most efficient manner so that accurate and precise results will be consistently obtained and suggest possible modifications of procedures to improve the quality.\nFollow and promote the use of safe working practices. Sets an example for other Quality personnel to follow related to safety, policies and procedures.\nMay be expected to lead small sub-teams.\nPerform all other duties and special projects as assigned.\n\nEducation and/or Training:\nFour-year degree in engineering, metallurgy, chemistry, or related technical field required. Advanced quality certifications (e.g., CQE, CQA, Six Sigma Green Belt) preferred but not required.\nRelevant Work Experience:\nFive or more years of relevant experience or equivalent in a quality role within manufacturing, preferably as a quality engineer in the aerospace industry.\nExperience working with customer quality requirements, audits, root-cause analysis, and AS9100 processes.
