Building on its history of innovation, Carpenter Technology’s wrought and powder technology capabilities support a range of next-generation products and manufacturing techniques, including novel magnetic materials and additive manufacturing.\nR&D TECHNICIAN II - MELTING\nPRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE R&D TECHNICIAN II - MELTING:\nSupport role for melting operations in R&D.\n\nOperate and assist operation of lab-scale VIM, VAR, and ESR furnaces.\n\nProcessing - heat preparation, melting, casting, heat treating, cutting operations, and other tasks as assigned.\n\nPrepare experimental heats, rebuild furnaces, melt, and cast heats.\n\nOperate band saws in R&D High Bay.\n\nProvide back-up for other R&D positions as needed.\n\nAbility to work alone or in a team.\n\nProvide back-up for other R&D positions as needed\n\nREQUIREMENTS FOR THE R&D TECHNICIAN II - MELTING:\nHigh school diploma or GED required.\n\nOne or more years of related experience.\n\nTechnical / mechanical experience is desired. Machinist or melting experience is a plus.\n\nPrevious experience operating a tow motor is desired, but will train.\n\nWorking knowledge of scientific principles, standards, methods and practices.\n\nWorking knowledge of metallurgical/laboratory equipment.\n\nAbility to develop the basic skills needed to set up and operate various pieces of equipment on fairly routine jobs.\n\nAbility to work with moderate supervision.\n\nAbility to work in a production oriented environment.\n\nInterpersonal skills.\n\nVerbal and written communication skills.\n\nBasic laboratory skills.\n\nAbility to lift to 40 lbs. occasionally throughout shift.\n\nComputer skills required.
