You will support critical technical topics, provide guidance to other engineers, and help ensure our products meet global standards for quality, reliability, safety, and cybersecurity.\nOur engineering teams take on some of the most unique and exciting global challenges in climate technology. To maintain our position as a global leader, we are looking for talented, ambitious, and results-oriented engineers who thrive in a fast-paced environment and want to contribute to Carrier’s continued legacy of innovation and success.\nThis is an onsite position located in Indianapolis, Indiana.\nRole Responsibilities\nAs a Senior Firmware & Embedded Engineer, you will be responsible for the following, in addition to other assignments as needed:\nDesign, develop, and implement embedded firmware solutions that meet business needs and deliver reliable, scalable product functionality.\nApply hands-on experience with microcontrollers, RTOS platforms, and embedded communication protocols to develop robust embedded solutions.\nDevelop firmware in C/C++ with a focus on efficiency, reliability, safety, and maintainability.\nDevelop and maintain firmware using C/C++ and, where applicable, assembly or other low-level programming languages.\nContribute throughout the embedded software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, reviews, implementation, integration, validation, and release support.\nSupport software quality through engineering best practices, including design reviews, code reviews, unit testing, functional and integration testing, and CI/CD integration.\nCreate and maintain software designs, technical documentation, and implementation details for assigned firmware features and product functionality.\nParticipate in product cybersecurity reviews and support secure firmware development practices.\nParticipate in Change Control Board meetings to help prioritize features, defects, and product improvements.\nDebug and troubleshoot embedded systems using tools such as emulators, JTAG/BDM debuggers, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and related equipment.\nStay current with emerging embedded technologies and apply relevant innovations to improve product performance, quality, and maintainability.\nWork within Agile development environments using tools such as Jira, Confluence, GitHub, and related software development platforms.\nProvide technical guidance, knowledge sharing, and review feedback to junior and mid-level engineers as needed.\nAnalyze, design, program, debug, troubleshoot, and modify firmware for embedded applications.\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a technical discipline.\n5+ years of experience designing and developing embedded firmware.\nWilling and able to travel up to 10% of the year (domestic).\nPreferred Qualifications\nStrong proficiency in C/C++ programming for embedded systems.\nHands-on experience with RTOS, multi-threading, and bare-metal programming.\nGood understanding of microcontroller architecture, interrupts, timers, memory such as Flash, RAM, and EEPROM, and low-level drivers.\nExperience with wired communication protocols and architectures such as UART, RS232/485, I2C, SPI, and Modbus.\nExperience in the use of Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, or other software development tools.\nKnowledge of embedded development workflows, version control, and build systems such as CMake and Make.\nExperience using hardware debugging tools and test equipment.\nDemonstrated knowledge of firmware development best practices, including Agile development, design documentation, code reviews, and unit testing.\nExperience with IoT and embedded system design elements such as bootloader, over-the-air firmware downloads, and firmware updates.\nUnderstanding of cybersecurity technologies and best practices, including encryption, key management, certificates, secure exchanges, and Secure Boot.\nExperience working with hardware and electrical systems, including the ability to verify firmware behavior through hardware probing using tools such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.\nExperience with HVAC control systems.\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills.\nStrong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.\nAbility to work independently on complex firmware assignments while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.\nProven ability to support continuous improvement and help standardize engineering processes.\nPay Range\nThe annual salary for this position is between $79,000.00 - $158,000.00 annually. Factors which may affect pay within this range include, but are not limited to, skills, education, experience, and other unique qualifications of the successful candidate.Other Compensation\nThis position may be entitled to short-term cash incentives, subject to plan requirements.
