The Controller has ultimate responsibility for all accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivables, payroll, monthly and annual close processes, consolidated reporting, cash, banking, audits, and ESOP-related accounting and compliance.The ideal candidate is a CPA who combines strong technical judgment with an operational mindset and takes pride in getting the details right every time. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports. That future is being built here. . . .come be a part of it! \nWhat You Will Be Doing Accounting Operations and Close\nOwn the monthly and year-end close for Cascade Energy and affiliated entities.\nOwnership of the chart of accounts and integrity of the general ledger\nPost journal entries, maintain key balance sheet schedules and reconciliations, perform complex entries, such as various accruals and accounting estimates.\nIdentify and resolve any discrepancies and unusual transactions.\nFinancial Reporting and Audit\nPrepare consolidated GAAP financial statements.\nLead the annual financial audit and maintain audit-ready documentation.\nProvide supporting information for and review of tax returns prepared by outside CPAs.\nTechnical Accounting and Policies\nMaintain and improve GAAP-compliant accounting policies, including revenue recognition (ASC 606).\nWork with the auditors and outside advisors to determine and document the treatment of complex or non-routine transactions.\nInternal Controls and Systems\nDevelop and maintain internal controls.\nOversee Ajera as the accounting system of record, and ensure key processes are documented.\nCash, Banking, and Payments\nManage daily cash across different accounts and entities and maintain banking and payment controls.\nSchedule and record weekly vendor payments and scheduled debt, noteholder, and trustee payments.\nSupport the CFO on lender relationships and financing activity.\nESOP, Benefit Plans, and Compliance\nComplete the annual ESOP internal loan cycle, review and fund distributions, and lead the annual ESOP audit with review and approval of plan filings.\nESOP administration as a board-approved member of the ESOP Advisory Committee.\nSynthetic equity accounting and repurchase obligations.\nSupport the annual valuation.\nAct as limited trustee of the 401(k) plan, ensuring contribution accuracy.\nPayroll oversight and controls.\nRecurring filings such as 1099s, property tax, and unclaimed property.\nBusiness Partnership and Special Transactions\nMentor and provide directions to accounting staff.\nWork closely with FP&A and the Assistant Controller on forecasts, priorities, and review standards.\nPartner with Finance, Operations, and Legal on accounting implications of contracts and new arrangements.\nSupport accounting for acquisitions and their integration.\nReasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.\nThis is a remote, full-time, exempt position located in the United States. Minimal travel is anticipated for this role. \nQualificationsApplicants for this role are required to have:\nBachelor’s degree in accounting or a closely related field\nActive CPA license.\nAt least 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 5 years of Controller experience with ownership of an organization’s accounting functions.\nStrong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, with experience in a professional services or project-based business.\nExperience closing and consolidating multiple entities.\nExperience leading external financial audits.\nExperience managing cash, banking relationships, and payment controls.\nExcellent attention to detail, judgment, and communication, and the ability to manage numerous recurring deadlines.\nAdvanced Microsoft Excel proficiency and experience with accounting or ERP systems.\nA successful candidate should also demonstrate these preferred characteristics and/or skills:\nExperience at an ESOP-owned company.\nExperience accounting for debt, including seller notes and warrants.\nExperience with multi-state payroll tax and state compliance filings.\nExperience with acquisition accounting and post-acquisition integration.\nExperience with Deltek Ajera or similar project-based accounting software.\nFor candidates whose experience may not align perfectly with all these preferred skills but can see themselves adding value in this role, we encourage you to still apply.
