Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.\nPF Battery System Engineer\nPosition Title\nBattery System Engineer\nLocation\nWuxi, China\nJob Summary\nThe PF Battery Engineer will be responsible for the engineering development, integration, validation, and continuous improvement of PF (Purchased Finished) Battery systems for Caterpillar electrification products.\nThis role serves as the primary technical interface between battery suppliers and machine development teams, ensuring battery solutions meet application requirements for performance, safety, reliability, durability, manufacturability, and cost.\nThe engineer will work closely with global battery teams, ePowertrain system engineers, software teams, validation teams, machine integration engineers, and battery suppliers to successfully deliver battery products for electrified construction and mining equipment.\nKey Responsibilities\nBattery Product Development\nLead PF battery engineering activities from concept through production implementation.\nDefine battery system technical requirements based on machine application needs.\nManage technical development and issue resolution with battery suppliers.\nSupport battery architecture evaluation, benchmarking, supplier selection, and technical assessments.\nReview battery design documentation, specifications, DFMEA, DVP&R, test reports, and production readiness.\nBattery System Integration\nSupport integration of battery systems into machine platforms.\nCollaborate with machine integration project team leaders on packaging, mounting, cooling, HV routing, and serviceability.\nEvaluate battery interfaces including:Electrical\nMechanical\nThermal\nCommunication\nFunctional Safety\n\nEnsure compatibility between battery, inverter, charger, motor, and machine control systems.\nBattery Validation & Testing\nDevelop battery validation plans and test strategies.\nReview supplier validation activities and test results.\nSupport:Functional testing\nEnvironmental testing\nThermal performance testing\nDurability testing\nAbuse testing\nVehicle/Machine-level validation\n\nLead root cause analysis and corrective actions for battery-related issues.\nSupplier Technical Leadership\nServe as the primary engineering focal point for PF battery suppliers.\nConduct technical design reviews with suppliers.\nDrive issue resolution and risk mitigation.\nMonitor supplier development progress, technical maturity, and readiness.\nSupport APQP, PPAP, and production launch activities.\nBattery Performance & Optimization\nEvaluate battery performance including:Energy capacity\nPower capability\nCharging performance\nThermal behavior\nEfficiency\nAging characteristics\n\nDrive continuous improvement in:Cost\nReliability\nPerformance\nManufacturability\n\nCross-Functional Collaboration\nWork closely with:\nBattery System Team\nBMS Engineering\nPower Electronics Team\nControls & Software Team\nMachine Integration Team\nValidation Team\nProcurement Team\nProduct Support Team\nExternal Battery Suppliers\nto ensure successful delivery of electrification programs.\nRequired Qualifications\nEducation\nBachelor's degree or above in:Electrical Engineering\nElectrochemical Engineering\nMechanical Engineering\nEnergy Storage\nAutomotive Engineering\nRelated Engineering Discipline\n\nExperience\n5+ years of battery engineering experience.\nExperience developing lithium-ion battery systems.\nExperience with supplier-managed battery products preferred.\nExperience in automotive, commercial vehicle, construction equipment, mining equipment, or energy storage industries preferred.\nTechnical Skills\nStrong understanding of:\nLithium-ion battery technology\nBattery pack architecture\nCell/module/pack design\nBattery thermal management\nBattery safety requirements\nBattery degradation mechanisms\nHigh-voltage systems\nBattery testing and validation\nExperience with:\nCAN communication\nBattery diagnostics\nBMS fundamentals\nDFMEA/PFMEA\nAPQP / PPAP\nRoot Cause Analysis\nSystem engineering processes\nKnowledge of standards:\nISO 26262\nIEC 62619\nUL 2580\nGB/T battery standards\nUN38.3\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience working directly with battery suppliers such as CATL, BYD/FinDreams, Sunwoda, EVE, Ganfeng, etc.\nExperience with off-highway electrification applications.\nExperience supporting battery sourcing and localization projects.\nExperience with machine-level electrification programs.\nFamiliarity with charging systems and HV architecture.\nKey Competencies\nStrong technical leadership\nSystems thinking\nProblem solving and root cause analysis\nSupplier management\nCross-functional collaboration\nEffective communication in English and Chinese\nAbility to manage multiple projects simultaneously\nPosting Dates:\nOctober 12, 2026 - October 29, 2026Caterpillar is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
