We are looking for an enthusiastic Electrical and Electronic Engineer to join our Advanced Power Technologies Electrical Systems and Components Team, where you will help develop the technologies that power machines used around the world.\nThe Engine Electronic Systems and Component Team develops the electronic systems that manage engine starting, charging, performance, emissions compliance and machine productivity across Caterpillar's global product range. The team is responsible for transforming high-level system requirements into robust electrical system and component solutions that deliver world-class performance, reliability and customer value.\n\nWhat You Will Do\nAs an Electronic Controls System Engineer, you will design, develop, and enhance electromechanical systems and components used to control Caterpillar’s engines and hybrid powertrains.\nYou could be involved in activities such as:\nDeveloping and testing electronic control system architectures for engine and hybrid power systems\nDeveloping and testing electronic components for engine and hybrid power systems.\nUsing laboratory, automation and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) tools to verify system and component behaviour.\nAnalysing test data and helping solve complex engineering challenges.\nCollaborating with global engineering teams across the UK, Europe, China, India and the United States.\nWhat You Will Have\nAnalytical Thinking\nProblem Solving\nEmbedded Systems\nRequirements Analysis\nTechnical Troubleshooting\nProduct Development\nProduct Testing\nEssential Experience:\nKnowledge of embedded electronic systems and their application within engine, powertrain, machine or automotive control systems. (Experience from alternative industries may be considered, such as robotics, automation, PLCs, inverter/motor controls, etc)\nStrong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes and develop effective solutions.\nExperience defining and analysing technical requirements for electrical, electronic or electromechanical systems.\nAn understanding of product verification and validation, including planning tests, analysing data and reporting results.\nThe ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.\nExperience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.\nAn understanding of structured product-development processes from concept and design through validation and production.\nDesirable Experience:\nExperience developing, designing, validating and troubleshooting electrical systems and components for off-highway machines, automotive, marine, military or engine applications.\nExperience in electrical circuit or component design and development, including electrical system schematics, wiring harnesses or printed circuit boards.\nKnowledge of electrical and electronic component selection methods.\nExperience with J1939, CAN and Ethernet communication systems.\nKnowledge of automotive sensors, including analog, CAN and SENT sensors.\nExperience using Vector tools such as CANape, CANalyzer or CANoe.\nAdditional Information\nThis role is based in the office 5 days per week, About Caterpillar\nCaterpillar Inc. is the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, off-highway diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives.
