Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.\nRole Definition:\nThe Caterpillar High School Work-Study Manufacturing Rotational Program is designed to provide Livingston Area Career Center (LACC) students with hands-on exposure to modern manufacturing careers. Participants rotate through Assembly, Machining, and Welding operations, gaining practical experience, developing technical and professional skills, and exploring career opportunities in advanced manufacturing. Students work under direct supervision and are provided structured learning experiences that complement their classroom instruction. This program is intended to prepare students for future careers, internships, apprenticeships, and post-secondary education opportunities within manufacturing and skilled trades.\nThis position is located in Pontiac, IL with an anticipated start date of Fall 2026. Part-time hours (10 to 32 hours per week) will be expected.\nKey Learning Areas:\nAssembly Rotation\nLearn basic assembly processes and manufacturing workflows.\nAssist with component preparation and assembly support activities.\nRead and follow visual work instructions and standard work documents.\nPractice quality checks and inspection techniques.\nParticipate in team-based continuous improvement activities.\nMachining Rotation\nLearn fundamentals of CNC and conventional machining operations.\nObserve machine setup, tooling, and machining processes.\nAssist with material handling, measurement, and inspection activities.\nDevelop skills using precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers.\nGain exposure to blueprint reading and manufacturing specifications.\nWelding Rotation\nLearn welding safety requirements and industry best practices.\nObserve and assist with welding preparation activities.\nParticipate in material preparation, grinding, and basic fabrication support tasks.\nDevelop an understanding of welding processes, equipment, and quality standards.\nLearn how welds are inspected and verified for quality.\nJob duties/responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:\nFollow all Caterpillar safety rules and PPE requirements.\nDemonstrate positive attendance, punctuality, and dependability.\nComplete assigned learning activities and work assignments.\nWork effectively with mentors, supervisors, and team members.\nAsk questions and actively participate in learning opportunities.\nAccurately complete required training and documentation activities.\nMaintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.\nParticipate in continuous improvement and team discussions.\nDemonstrate professionalism and respect in all interactions.\nStudent Trainee Qualifications:\nMust be an incoming high school junior or senior for the 2026-2027 school year enrolled in theLACC Work-Study program.\nMust be within commutable distance to the Pontiac, IL facility with reliable transportation.\nExperience with Microsoft Office.\nStrong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.\nPhysical Requirements (with or without reasonable accommodation):\nAbility to sit or stand for prolonged periods.\nAbility to perform repetitive operations.\nAbility to lift up to 35 lbs.\nTop Candidates May Also Have:\nAbility to follow documented procedures for standard work, to perform work safely and free of defects.\nStrong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot issues and implement effective solutions.\nAptitude for assembly and mechanical work.\nInterest in a potential career in manufacturing.\nAdditional Information:\nThese are part-time, temporary positions.\nPositions are located on-site at Caterpillar’s Pontiac, IL facility.\nRelocation assistance is not available for this position.\nSponsorship is not available for this position.\nWhat You Will Get:\nStudent Trainee Hourly Rate: Hourly rate is based on your grade level for the 2026-2027 school year.
