Areas of responsibility include configuration, integration, build and testing of embedded software on diesel engine systems; testing software for embedded electronic control systems includes requirements development and verification of software in a bench environment as well as troubleshooting software or system defects.\nThis role requires experience in embedded systems, real-time software development, controls integration, and software lifecycle processes. The successful candidate will collaborate with systems and controls engineers driving the delivery of high-quality, production-ready software.\nWhat You Will Do:\nSoftware Development\nPerform Software requirements analysis to support the development of embedded software features. \nCollaborate with controls engineers to integrate algorithms developed in MATLAB®/Simulink®.\nPerform software configuration and building of flash files.\nDefine and develop software in the loop test scripts.\nSet-up and configuration of test bench hardware & software.\nSoftware Integration\nIntegrate software components, libraries, and auto-generated code into deployable software images and flash files.\nConfigure and manage software builds using embedded development toolchains.\nIntegrate calibration, configuration, and parameter datasets into embedded control applications.\nSupport software deployment to target hardware platforms and production ECUs.\nVerification & Validation\nDevelop comprehensive software test plans, validation procedures, and verification strategies.\nExecute software unit, integration, system, and regression testing.\nSupport Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), and Model-in-the-Loop (MIL) testing activities.\nAnalyze test results and implement corrective actions as required.\nVerify compliance with functional, performance, and safety requirements.\nDefect Analysis & Troubleshooting\nIdentify, investigate, and resolve complex software defects and system integration issues.\nPerform root cause analysis of software, controls, and system-level failures.\nUtilize debugging and diagnostic tools to troubleshoot embedded applications.\nSupport field issue resolution and continuous software improvement initiatives.\nWhat You Will Have:\nEffective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.\nTeamwork: Knowledge of the necessity and value of teamwork; experience with; ability to work cooperatively towards shared goals and being supportive of others at all levels.\nTechnical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.\nSoftware Development: Knowledge of software development tools and activities; ability to produce software products or systems in line with product requirements.\nRequirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.\nEducation: Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.\nTop Candidates Will Also Have:\nMaster's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science\nExperience with the following: dSPACE, Git, Trace 32 Debugger, CANalyzer, Cat Electronic Technician (ET), Matlab, C, and Python, CAN/SAE J1939\nExperience working with and troubleshooting electrical systems\nPrior work experience with diesel engine and/or machine software development\nCaterpillar Inc. is the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, off-highway diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives.
