The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the Ruby on Rails framework and experience working with data-intensive, business-oriented web applications. Additionally, the candidate must have experience with deploying infrastructure and code at scale to AWS cloud services. This is a full-time, in-office role, reporting Monday through Friday to our office in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania.\nWhat You Will Do:\nDesign, develop and maintain Ruby on Rails applications in the energy space\n\nCollaborate with business and operational stakeholders to define, plan, and deliver new features\n\nDesign and implement ML-ready data pipelines\n\nParticipate in the design and architecture of new systems and applications\n\nEnsure code quality and maintainability by writing tests, conducting code reviews, and following industry best practices\n\nAssist in shared DevOps duties including infrastructure management and code deployment\n\nRearchitect and refactor core application components for efficiency improvements and to reduce technical debt\n\nTroubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues\n\nProvide guidance and mentorship to junior developers\n\nUse AI coding tools to analyze, specify, and implement complex new software features\n\nDevelop AI Skills and tools to improve the efficiency of our development process, to explore new avenues for development, and to document existing processes and code\n\nRequired Proficiencies:\nExpert-level knowledge of the Rails framework (version 7+) and its core libraries\n\nA strong command of automated testing strategies and tools (Rspec, Capybara, etc.)\n\nExperience with and commitment to automated testing for both front- and back-end functionality\n\nStrong understanding of web application architecture, object-oriented programming, and design patterns\n\nProficiency using git and experience with GitHub Enterprise and GitHub actions\n\nApplied understanding of agentic development and experience managing and reviewing the work of AI-assisted developers\n\nExcellent communication and interpersonal skills\n\nWhat Will Put You Ahead:\n9+ years of recent professional experience in full-stack Ruby on Rails development\n\nExperience deploying containerized Rails applications at scale to AWS cloud services\n\nExperience with IoT systems and edge computing\n\nExpertise in Data Streaming technologies such as Flink, Kafka, Kinesis, etc\n\nUnderstanding of common ML workflows and off-the-shelf ML tools, especially in the AWS ecosystem\n\nFamiliarity with Ancillary Services in the energy market\n\nExperience with generator and energy storage control systems\n\nWhat You Will Have:\nSoftware Development: Knowledge of software development tools and activities; ability to produce software products or systems in line with product requirements.\nConducts walkthroughs and monitors effectiveness and quality of the development activities.\n\nElaborates on multiple-development toolkits for traditional and web-based software.\n\nHas participated in development of multiple or large software products.\n\nContrasts advantages and drawbacks of different development languages and tools.\n\nEstimates and monitors development costs based on functional and technical requirements.\n\nProvides consulting on both selection and utilization of developers' workbench tools.\n\nSoftware Development Life Cycle: Knowledge of software development life cycle; ability to use a structured methodology for delivering and managing new or enhanced software products to the marketplace.\nDescribes similarities and differences of life cycle for new product development vs. new release.\n\nIdentifies common issues, problems, and considerations for each phase of the life cycle.
