Explore your career opportunity with Catholic Charities.\nJoin us in Inspiring Hope and Building Futures.\nJOB SUMMARY: The Children Support Specialist is a direct support position focused on assisting children and adolescents with developmental disabilities in the after-school program. The incumbent will provide support services to assist in the achievement of the child’s Individualized Plan of Care.\nESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:\nProvides instructional support in the development and utilization of independent communication through types and methods that have been determined by the family and/or student’s school, (i.e. - PCS, voice box, sign language, etc.). \nPlans comprehensive lessons that utilize the student’s mode of learning to teach skills for increased independence in the home and the community (i.e., hygiene, self-help skills, social skills, community safety, etc.). \nOrganizes and plans innovative community outings, using the resources available, which provide the students with cultural, educational, social and recreational experiences that broaden their awareness within their surrounding community (i.e., transportation, businesses, libraries, museums, historical sites, etc.).\nImplements student’s Individual Plan/Treatment Plan through creative and engaging activities that address the student’s goals and that are appropriate based on the student’s cognitive level. \nDocuments progress made towards the goals identified in the TP/IP through daily progress notes, quarterly notes, and the student’s portfolio. \nAppropriately documents events as related to the student’s behavior management plan as appropriate. \nInforms the supervisor of scheduled changes (i.e. - calling in sick to work/day program, visits home with family, etc.). \nParticipates in regular team meetings and monitoring of services to assure quality, compliance, and consumer satisfaction. \nCompletes all training as required for the position to include professional development training outside of Catholic Charities as appropriate and required. \nReports all incidents according to the Division of Developmental Disabilities Services’ Incident Reporting policy. Participate with investigations and participate in implementation of the Plan of Corrections, when indicated. \nTransports children to and from approved supervised outings in Agency vehicles. \nPerforms other job-related duties as assigned. \nRequirements\nEDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:\nMust have a high school diploma or equivalent. Verification of foreign equivalency required. \nCoursework/Background in the following areas: Child Care, Education, Allied Health, Human Services, preferred. \nExperience working with students on the Autism Spectrum and/or students with cognitive delays. \nOne year of experience working independently in the home and in the community as an instructor. \nSKILLS and COMPETENCIES:\nAbility to present information in both written and oral form. Excellent communication and organizational skills. \nAbility to identify and resolve problems.
