Reporting to the Engineering Lead, you will work across automated and manual testing, code development, and software delivery to ensure our products are fit for purpose. Some of the duties include analysis of software and systems, mitigating risk, and preventing software issues.\nThe key areas of responsibility for the Software Engineer include:\nTechnical Delivery\nTechnical Innovation\nKey Responsibilities\nTechnical Delivery:\nDesign, code, test, and debug technical solutions including complex components, ensuring quality standards are achieved.\nProvide product support (fixing defects) in older technologies where required, including active involvement in moving the legacy product forward into newer web technologies.\nWrite clean, well-designed, documented and commented code, following best practices.\nEstimate effort required to accomplish requirements and ensure that schedules are met.\nCollaborate with other team members to help specify, design, and develop software, meeting product requirements.\nIdentify process deficiencies and propose and implement solutions and improvements.\nTake part in reviewing code through PR review and pair programming ensuring defect rates are minimised, and products are inexpensive to maintain and support.\nWork with the security team to ensure data security standards are always met.\nOperates independently on well-scoped tasks; seeks guidance on ambiguous or cross-cutting technical decisions; supports less experienced team members informally.\nTechnical Innovation:\nActively contribute to Causeway's AI-first ways of working, including leveraging AI tooling to accelerate development, code review, and specification work.\nTake responsibility for your personal development, ensuring that knowledge and skills are up to date and maintained, including emerging trends that may be relevant to solutions being developed.\nContinuously strive for innovative solutions and make suggestions for improvements that will provide benefit to the business in terms of improved efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity.\nKey Skills, Experience and Qualifications\nEssential:\n3 years of experience as a Software Engineer or in a similar role.\nExperience with AI-assisted coding tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot or similar).\nExperience in Java or Microsoft C#.\nGood understanding and experience of SQL.\nUnderstanding of APIs and REST.\nExperience in unit testing.\nGood knowledge of quality standards, legislation, and best practice.\nAwareness of current trends and developments in software engineering, including AI-assisted development practices.\nExperience with Agile or Kanban methodologies.\nAbility to identify technical risks and propose alternative solutions.\nHighly developed attention to detail.\nDesirable:\nExperience in JavaScript, Angular, or Knockout.\nAwareness and experience of Google Kubernetes Engine, GCP offerings, Jenkins, and Azure DevOps.\nAwareness and experience of AWS.\nDegree level or equivalent education in a relevant subject such as computer science, computer engineering, information management systems, software development, or business information systems.\nOur Values\nWe areUnited.
