At Cayuse, we are committed to our customers’ success by empowering organizations to conduct globally connected research that advances their impact on science, discovery and society. We build on that commitment with proven, integrated and easy-to-use technology that delivers exceptional value, and world class service and support that accelerates outcomes.\nBut we are more than just an empowering platform powered by advanced technologies. We are a collaboration of exceptional, highly skilled people with multi-disciplinary expertise, and are building our team to support our ambitious growth plans. Cayuse’s foundational strength comes from our customer and employee focused values and commitment to industry-leading solutions. It’s an exciting time to become a key member of our growing team.\nJoin our remote first culture as an Associate Engineer, an entry-level, hands-on engineering role focused on building AI capabilities directly into Cayuse products. You will work alongside senior engineers to design, build, test, and ship AI agents, Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, and LLM-powered features that help research institutions and their administrators work faster and with less manual effort. This is not a data science or ML research role. It is a software engineering role for someone early in their career who writes solid code, learns quickly, and wants to grow into a strong AI engineer by shipping real features to real customers.\n\nResponsibilities\nAs an Associate Engineer, you will contribute across the full development cycle of AI-powered product features, with mentorship and code review from senior engineers. Success in this role means delivering well-tested, maintainable code, understanding the problems you're solving, applying feedback, and progressively taking on more complex engineering responsibilities. \n AI Agent Development: Build and maintain AI agents that use large language models (such as Claude) to complete multi-step tasks within Cayuse products - calling tools, retrieving data, and taking actions on behalf of users. Implement prompts, tool definitions, and orchestration logic under the guidance of senior engineers.\n MCP Server Development: Help build and extend Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers that allow AI assistants to securely interact with Cayuse products. Work with senior engineers to implement tools, APIs, authentication, and permission checks using established engineering standards. Write clear documentation and tests to ensure these integrations are reliable and reusable. \nHybrid AI Validation: Help turn AI-extracted rules, such as requirements parsed from funding opportunity instructions, into deterministic, auditable validations that run alongside existing form rules and are reviewed by people before use.\nProduct Integration: Integrate AI features into existing Cayuse applications through platform APIs. Build on the shared capabilities and patterns set by the architecture team instead of one-off implementations, and partner with product teams so AI fits naturally into customer workflows.\nTesting & Evaluation: Write unit and integration tests for AI features, and help build evaluation sets that measure the accuracy, reliability, latency, and cost of LLM outputs. Contribute to time-boxed AI pilots and help document whether each should go, pivot, or stop. Investigate failures, identify root causes, and propose fixes.\n Deployment & Operations: Ship code through CI/CD pipelines to cloud environments (AWS, including Amazon Bedrock). Add logging and monitoring to AI services and help troubleshoot production issues.\nLearning & Collaboration: Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and sprint ceremonies. Keep current with the fast-moving AI tooling ecosystem and share what you learn with the team.\nGoverned AI Platform: Develop AI features using Cayuse's shared AI platform and established engineering standards. Learn how our platform handles model access, security, tenant isolation, usage tracking, and auditing. Work with senior engineers to ensure new features follow these patterns rather than introducing one-off solutions.\nResponsible AI & Security: Follow established security and privacy standards when developing AI features. Learn to recognize and test for risks such as prompt injection, unauthorized data access, and inaccurate AI outputs. Work with senior engineers to ensure AI features respect user permissions, protect customer data, and maintain proper tenant isolation. Raise potential security or reliability concerns early.\nQualifications\nCore Experience\n0-2 years of professional software development experience, including internships, co-ops, or apprenticeships.\nDemonstrated ability to build working software through coursework, internships, personal projects, open-source contributions, or hackathons. A portfolio or GitHub profile is strongly encouraged.\nExposure to team-based development using version control (Git), code review, and agile practices.\nBS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.\nTechnical Skills\n Software Development: Proficient in at least one general-purpose language (Python or TypeScript/JavaScript preferred; Java with Spring Boot also valued). Solid grasp of data structures, APIs, error handling, and writing tests.\n AI & LLM Fundamentals: Demonstrated interest in AI technologies and how they can be applied to software development. Experience experimenting with LLM APIs, prompt engineering, tool calling, or retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) through coursework or personal projects is a plus. A willingness to learn and understand how these technologies work is more important than prior experience with any specific AI framework.\n Agents & MCP: Familiarity with the Model Context Protocol, agent frameworks, or AI coding assistants (such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot).\n APIs & Integration: Working understanding of REST APIs, JSON, and authentication basics (API keys, OAuth).\n Cloud & Infrastructure: Exposure to a cloud platform (AWS preferred; Amazon Bedrock a plus), containers (Docker), or CI/CD pipelines is a plus.\nData Fluency: Comfortable writing basic SQL queries and working with structured data. Exposure to Snowflake or another cloud data warehouse is a plus.\nCollaboration & Communication\nClear communicator - writes readable code, documentation, and pull request descriptions, and raises questions early when blocked.\nStrong problem-solving instincts: you break ambiguous tasks into smaller steps and work through them methodically.\nCoachable and growth-oriented - you seek out feedback and apply it.\nCollaborative and adaptable - effective in a remote-first environment and when coordinating across offshore, nearshore, and onshore teams.\nGenuine curiosity about how AI is changing software and knowledge work, paired with practical judgment about where it adds real value.\nBenefits\nCompetitive Medical Benefits (PPO + HSA available)\nVision, Dental, Short-Term Disability fully covered by Cayuse\nUnlimited PTO + Holidays + Flexible Work Schedule\nRemote Work Stipend\nEqual Paid Parental Leave\n401k with Employer Matching\nQuarterly Wellness Reimbursement\nRemote Work Environment, supporting the Ultimate Employee Experience \nCayuse does not accept agency resumes. Please do not forward resumes to our jobs alias or any Cayuse employees. Cayuse is not responsible for any fees related to unsolicited resumes.\nOur culture is one of inclusion and belonging where everyone feels respected, treated justly, supported and nourished. We all share responsibility for creating and sustaining a work environment where differences are celebrated and we are empowered to strive for excellence. We’re proud to be an equal opportunity employer and actively seek to recruit, develop, and retain a diverse and talented workforce.","description_format":"text","description_chars":7953,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["401k plan","Flexible schedule","Parental leave","Unlimited PTO"],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"United States","iso":"US","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["EdTech Platforms","Nonprofit, Church & Membership Software"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-13T20:03:49Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":86,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.86,"p_room":1,"age_days":0,"expected_fill_days":31,"reasons":["conf:2","win:early","comp:junior"],"computed_at":"2026-10-14T06:34:16Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/cayuse-associate-software-engineer-ai-solutions","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/cayuse-associate-software-engineer-ai-solutions.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-14T08:02:52Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":9234,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-15T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":19038},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=19038"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fcayuse-associate-software-engineer-ai-solutions"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fcayuse-associate-software-engineer-ai-solutions"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fcayuse-associate-software-engineer-ai-solutions"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/cayuse-associate-software-engineer-ai-solutions\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fcayuse-associate-software-engineer-ai-solutions"}]}
