Established in 2007 with its first campus at Hume in the ACT, it now runs campuses in the ACT, New South Wales, Victoria and New Zealand that support co-location, hyperscale and AI supercomputing workloads and are interconnected by carrier-grade networks. It hires 24/7 HVAC and electrical service technicians, building services and high-voltage engineers, bid engineers, planners, project managers and facilities staff.

About Us:

CDC Data Centres is Australia’s leading operator of sovereign, secure, world-class data centre facilities. Headquartered in Canberra with multiple facilities across ACT, NSW, VIC and New Zealand, CDC’s diversified operations provide secure data centre configurations that support co-location, containerised and hyperscale compute environments with all campuses interconnected with high-speed carrier grade networks.

Our mission is to attract, retain and grow the world’s best data centre team. Our people are committed, tenacious and meticulous in supporting our customers. Together, we configure the landscape to meet the security, reliability, connectivity and sustainability needs for today and tomorrow.

About the Role:

At CDC, our Critical Environment Technicians work hands-on in live data centres, supporting the day-to-day operation of mission critical infrastructure. This is a site-based role focused on planned works, maintenance, site logistics, and overall reliability during business hours.

You’ll play a key role in delivering technical facilities management - coordinating maintenance, managing site operations, and responding to incidents to keep our environments safe, secure, and always on.

If you’ve worked in electrical, HVAC, or industrial environments, much of this will feel familiar. The difference is the scale, the environment, and the opportunity to step into a stable, high-growth industry.

You’ll be part of CDC’s Operations team - on the ground every day, working closely together to deliver a strong customer experience and keep our facilities running at their best.

What you’ll be doing day-to-day:

  • Monitoring and responding to alarms and alerts across power, cooling, and fire systems
  • Performing physical inspections to ensure equipment and infrastructure are operating within defined parameters
  • Responding to faults and incidents, prioritising actions, and determining when escalation or contractor support is required
  • Carrying out operational switching and control activities to prevent unplanned outages
  • Supporting planned maintenance and monitoring contractors on site, ensuring strict adherence to safety procedures and approved methods of operation
  • Documenting incidents, maintenance activities, and observations to support continuous improvement

Benefits, Training and Offerings:

Our training program provides tailored content through our CDC Academy, specifically designed for individuals starting out in this role. You'll learn hands-on by shadowing and working alongside our experienced Service Technicians, gaining essential knowledge to develop your skillset.

About You

You have experience working in environments where reliability, safety, and procedure matter - whether that’s through an electrical, HVAC, mechanical, or broader critical infrastructure background.

You might be a qualified electrician or HVAC technician looking to move away from a traditional tools-based role and into operations, or someone earlier in their technical career who is curious about how large-scale, mission-critical environments operate.

Regardless of background, we value motivation, strong attention to detail, and a willingness to learn and develop within a growing industry.

Desirable experience:

  • A trade or technical background in Electrical, Refrigeration/HVAC, Mechanical, or a related field (highly desirable)
  • Experience working in critical or high-availability environments with strong safety and compliance requirements
  • Exposure to monitoring or control systems such as BMS, EMS, or SCADA-type platforms
  • Familiarity with complex infrastructure or plant equipment (e.g. HVAC systems, power systems, generators, fire systems)
  • Strong fault-finding, problem-solving, and situational awareness skills
  • The ability to produce clear documentation, logs, and post-incident reports

Essential:

Australian Citizenship with ability to obtain and maintain a NV1 Security Clearance.
