For this role specifically, ownership is the trait we will weigh most heavily. You are 3-7 years into your legal career and ready for a role with real autonomy. Given a problem, you work it: you make calls within your remit, move things forward, and raise your hand early when you genuinely need help - not after a deal has stalled for a week. You bring intellectual curiosity, commercial fluency, bias to action, and the maturity to know the difference between a 0.1% risk worth accepting and a material exposure that requires mitigation.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced commercial lawyer with a strong background in commercial contracts relevant to a technology company as it relates to our customers and vendors. Reporting to DataCamp’s General Counsel, this is a strategically important role that will help

DataCamp achieve its goals at a time of dynamic growth.

This is a role designed for someone who can be pointed at a problem and trusted to deliver. You will have a clear remit, the authority to make decisions within it, and a General Counsel who is available when you need a sounding board - but who is not going to micromanage

your inbox. As our Commercial Counsel, you will support internal business partners and assist on a broad variety of transactional matters in a growing technology company by:

• Leading drafting and negotiation on a broad range of agreements (including Master Services Agreements, terms of service, services agreements, other SaaS agreements, NDAs, data processing addenda, and requests for proposals) supporting DataCamp’s business teams, with a primary focus of supporting the licensing of DataCamp’s products and services to its customers and channel partners and vendor software

  licensing.

• Owning deals end-to-end, from first redline through signature, including direct engagement with customer counsel and procurement teams. You will be the named legal contact on the deals you run.
• Collaborating closely with Sales, Customer Success, Partnerships, Operations, and Finance teams to shepherd deals to completion - including at quarter-end and year - end.
• Facilitating the timely closure of business transactions while minimizing risk exposure.
• Providing day-to-day commercial legal support, business-focused counseling, and advice to the sales organization - practical advice that helps stakeholders get to yes rather than gating them on risk.
• Supporting the continuous improvement of standard form agreements and legal

  contracting processes.

• Defining, building and implementing processes and technologies to effectively deliver legal support in a scalable manner to DataCamp’s rapidly expanding portfolio of enterprise customers.
• Leading internal projects, training, and driving cross-functional efforts to completion.
• Assisting with special projects as needed. You will be based remotely (EU) and support transactions across all international offices

  (currently UK, Belgium and New York).

What we’re looking for:

• 3-7 years of post-qualification experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts. Strong preference for candidates with a meaningful period of training and practice at a leading global or national law firm.
• Demonstrable experience with SaaS agreements, technology licensing, strategic deals, and channel agreements (such as resellers, distribution, MSP, etc.). In-house experience at a technology company is a strong plus.
• Prior experience supporting a heavy volume of commercial transactions relevant to a technology company across various business functions in a fast-paced environment.
• The maturity and judgment to own work end-to-end with limited supervision - making decisions within your remit, escalating what genuinely needs escalation, and neither over-checking nor under-flagging.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to simultaneously manage several projects.
• Drive for efficiency and ability to leverage technology to optimize processes.
• The ability to provide timely and effective legal advice in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work independently, set priorities, meet deadlines, and resolve complex problems with a thorough understanding of the changing legal needs of a fast-growing business.
• A default orientation toward enabling the business - “no” is a last resort that you can justify, not a default risk posture.
• Clear, collaborative, and effective communication with business teams, especially sales teams. You should be ready to demonstrate - not just describe - how you build collaborative working relationships with internal stakeholders and customers.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with redlines and advice that don’t need a second pass.
• Team player with a sense of humor and strong work ethic who is comfortable working in a dynamic environment and collaborating with various internal teams.
• Willingness to travel and work flexibly on a varied schedule based on the needs of the team, including calls at odd hours as needed.
• JD or equivalent education, and qualification to practice in at least one EU, UK, or US jurisdiction. 

It’s a plus if you have:

• Commercial SaaS experience is highly desired
• Specific experience with US government contracting
• Familiarity with privacy (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA) and information security (SOC 2,ISO 27001)
• Interest and skill in developing scalable legal infrastructure.
• Experience working both in the US and Europe
• Affinity with data and/or e-learning
